It's a pretty interesting read. Can't wait to see what they do.

I just read that, very interesting, I noticed it has the LT1 t-body on it (not that it matters)wonder which cam was in the TPI? Really kind of shows how bad the stock exhaust and chassis weight hurt the F-platform (vs fox chassis) .

Don't forget the popularity of the T5 in the mustang, and 2.77 gears in thirdgens. Not that all Fox Mustangs got good gears, but Ford Motorsports gears have a reputation for frequently dropping in with the existing shims.

This will be a fun article. It is pretty amazing how bad the stock manifolds and factory T-pipe are. Not sure what GM was thinking there.

I think you can blame it on packaging and necessity just as easily. For the smogger era they were designed, the manifolds were adequate, and the T probably saved couch cushion change on every assembly welded together vs a true Y pipe.

For all their problems in their stock applications(the time period in which these motors had their heyday obviously having a significant influence on the matter), I'm still excited to see where they go with this article in parts 2 and beyond... Could be fun!

The 302 Ford combined a 4.0-inch bore with a 3.0-inch stroke. This compares to a 3.736-inch bore and longer 3.48-inch stroke for the 305.
If they wanted to do a true comparison, then they should test the 302 Ford against a 302 Chevy (4.0-inch bore with a 3.0-inch stroke). YES, Chevy also made a 302. 1967-1969.

Re: New Car Craft Article on 305 TPI vs. Ford 5.0.
Having owned both a pair of 5.0 fox's and my Firebird, car for car the third gens where way ahead. Far better car to drive. The 5.0s where cool, ford definitely employed some old hot rod tricks to what they had at the time. The factory 5.0 headers where nothing to write home about, but literally anything GM could have come up with other than the log style manifold would have been an improvement. The switch to a set of Dyno Dons was without doubt the best mod I ever made.
I did bang shift a bolt on only 89 5.0 to 13.12@103, they are fun and all the speed parts can be had on craigslist now.
