Re: Big cap dist

Why wouldn't it? 85-86 F-bodys used a large cap distributor, so did the Corvette. The only time it's a problem is with the giant Accel Super Coil that covers the top of the cap, which is why Accel offered a stubby filler to replace the cover.

Re: Big cap dist

You have to make a couple of tweaks in the calibration that account for the size of the cap and it's effect on the ignition timing. The tangential speed of the rotor is a little faster on the larger diameter cap. It's basically a copy and paste from the Corvette calibration.

If you didn’t get one with the swap parts you purchased. RockAuto has them lookup a 85-91 corvette 5.7L.
Just make sure it’s computer controlled and has the flat 4 wire connector.

Yeah, if you see it with a vacuum advance cannister hanging off the side of it, that's not the one!

Re: Big cap dist

Be aware that the TPI version of the large HEI cap is lower than the other (normal) versions of the large HEI cap.

Re: Big cap dist

Interesting... my large cap is the "carbureted" version. Yet it's on a computer controlled distributor.

Re: Big cap dist

The large cap was used on plenty of full electronic distributors, so that's no surprise. I believe the TPI version was primarily for clearance under the TPI plenum extension trim piece.
