Washed engine no crank after.

I washed my engine as I have done many times. It will not start now. I checked the distributor and its dry. I checked for spark at the plugs and it sparks. Fuel pressure is good just checked for fun on that one. It sat all night and dry. I checked the fuses under the dash. Any ideas? Could the control module be bad now from water and still have spark. It almost acts like the injectors are not working. Surly it didn't fry the ecm just by washing the engine.

Re: Washed engine no crank after.

Any connector missing a seal coulkd have gotten water in it. I don't know if you'd kill the ECM that way, but it'd be just as likely to happen if you'd hit a puddle.

There are some relays underhood, like the fuel pump relay, but you said you have good pressure.

It's unlikely however of you frying the ECM by getting the ECM itself wet as that's behind the dash panel on the passenger's side.

Have you checked the connectors to verify there's no water in any?

How exactly is it acting?

Re: Washed engine no crank after.

Just spins over. I swapped my MAF with a spare. Put a new control module in the distributor. I have unplugged most the plugs and still nothing. It does have spark at the plugs. It was running perfect before washing the engine. Its like its getting no fuel to cylinders. Fuel pressure is 40 at the rail and I checked all the fuses. Weird since it all dry. I mean I washed it but not any more than other times. Not sure if any wet sensor or relay would cause it. Its dry now. Also the VATS does not have the light on and it turns over so I don't think thats it.

Ordered a new ECM to try it 28 years old can't hurt. It will fire on starting fluid. I may just take it out back set it on fire!

if you have a garage keep it warm for a day or two, it'll start up don't worry, just has to dry out. I've done this too once it does start get it nice and hot

Put a lamp under the hood and let it dry out. DON'T BURN IT, it will be fine!

Re: Washed engine no crank after.

Its stuck outside under the carport. ECM want be here until Wednesday so maybe it will start by then and if so I was putting a new one in anyway as part of the restore. Sure is frustrating when you have cleaned the engine many times and boom want start.

Re: Washed engine no crank after.

Let it set 2 days and only way it starts is starter fluid spray. Something killed the injectors all 8. I think it may have fried the ECM. What would kill all 8? I have checked the fuses. The VATS light goes off and the starter turns.

Both fuses are good. I didn't change them but visually they appear good. I may swap them out to see.

lol after all this I am getting better at fixing it when it does break. I went after the distributor but never thought about the TPS.

Thanks for the help. I wanted to post what it was for others who wet the engine
