1989 TPI Intake on 1986 heads?

Was looking at these heads for a possible budget head/cam swap, but they use the straight center intake bolts from 1986 and earlier.

Can my 1989 base be modified (drilled) to work with the straight center bolt holes, or do I need to budget for a new lower intake as well?

Here are the heads:

The bolts might not sit flush without a bushing. There are a few styles.

You might consider a higher flowing base for performance the stock base is restrictive.

I have a 86 TPI intake I’d swap for a 89 TPI intake.

I did mine today I used a die grinder to contour the top flat and a mini die grinder to extend the holes both using non ferrous carbide burs.
I was thinking about welding up the un used part of the holes but I think it should be fine seeing as the after market ones are slots also.

Re: 1989 TPI Intake on 1986 heads?

Thanks guys. Still no idea what I will ultimately do here, now Im thinking going with some Vortec heads and a matching TPI base. Maybe I should just leave it alone until it blows up......
