85 Iroc with 5.7l TPI distributor, ICM, EST issue

I am getting a code 42, I removed the cap to find my rotor and cap both damaged and the top of the shaft where the rotor screws in to is bent, I am going to replace all 3 but I am not sure what one to get, the only distributor that I can find online that fits is one that is meant for a 305 TPI not a 5.7 TPI. My current ICM is also a 7 pin ICM and the only distributors that have a 7 pin are for the 305 TPI also, are they interchangable?

That's because there wasn't an 85 5.7 TPI car as far as a Camaro goes. Find out what engine your car came out of. Does it have center bolt heads? If so its an 87-92 engine if its in fact a 350

I've tried running the numbers but none add up, I know the 85s didnt come with the 5.7. I do have center bolt heads, my casting number on the back of my block doesnt match up with my engine stamp on the front passenger side head.

Re: 85 Iroc with 5.7l TPI distributor, ICM, EST issue

Wont a distributor from a 305 TPI work with a 5.7 TPI? That's my main concern, if it's the wrong distributor that would explain my issue and then I will need to re wire for the correct one or do I just buy the exact same one for a 305 TPI since that's what it's currently set up for?

There is no reason for it to not work. GM originally may have used a different ICM, just to reduce the 305 engines power. But other then that, no difference. Look up one for the same MY but for a Corvette. They only came with a 5.7l engine. And again, should be a drop in.

Note that only GM distributor and ICM should be used. A good NAPA or O'Rilley (sp!) all brass terminal cap and rotor can be used.

OK, why is it you shouldn't get it? It states Delco Remy. Not sure if that is GM or not. Is this the distributor that is causing code 42? If so then maybe there is an issue with it?

Re: 85 Iroc with 5.7l TPI distributor, ICM, EST issue

I'm not sure what is causing the code 42, the distributor in the picture is the one I currently have now so I will just buy the same one and swap out the old one. ECM is brand new, ICM is tested and good, so I'm just going to replace the distributor, cap and rotor and re time the car and hope that fixes my issue. The top of the shaft where to rotor screws in is bent and it damaged me cap and rotor
