I can't believe why my car wouldn't start!

So finally after being put off the last 7 years I pulled my 91 out of the corner after deciding it's been time to get this thing done! Honestly my main motivation all of the sudden has come from my new girlfriend, lol! Threw a battery in, and spent a couple hours trying to figure out why i couldn't even get a click out of the starter. Finally found a cut wire under the dash. I'd forgotten I had taken out an aftermarket alarm. Phase one, got it to crank. Phase 2, put gas in and... spent days trying to figure out why i could only get a little sputter out of it. Did some research over the weekend and stumbled across an old thread on a corvette forum where a guy with a fresh build wss having the same issue. After mentioning in his post that he had a brand new MSD coil on it, somebody told him the stock ignition module didn't have enough power to fire that coil? So out of curiosity I pulled the stock one off the IROC and put it in. Dam car fired right up!! To say I was excited is an understatement! Anybody else ever have a similar experience? And I guess if i wanna run that fancy coil I should get the rest of the system? And I gotta give a shout out to Brian for setting up my stock chip! Now to get everything back together and see how she runs! I have a video but can't post it? Posted it on the third generation camaro and firebird page on fb if anyone else here is on there.

I'd say it was just a bad ICM then, not necessarily a "weak" one. These cars eat 'em, there's a reason alot of us have one in the glove box lol.

If your going through icms you must have a bad coil or are using cheap icms.

Nope, New Coil, AC Delco ICM, proper heat sink compound, good grounds, still lose one every year or two (though it was MUCH worse before when I used NAPA ICM's and the compound that they claimed was heat-sink. . .)

Either way, glad the OP got it running

I am constantly looking into why though because I agree, they should last much MUCH longer.

I'll test that theory this weekend. I'll throw a new module in and try the MSD coil again.

Thanks, these give me motivation to dive into investigating again. Hadn't thought about testing the alternator. . .
