car died on freeway, wouldn't start

The other day i was driving on the freeway and my car started to stumble a little bit, then all my guages started bouncing all over like they were possessed, as i pulled off the road the car died. I couldn't get it to start again after that until the next morning.
i had a similar problem starting it about a week ago, let it sit and it started up just fine the next day.

Car is a 91 z28 350/700r4
I checked the injectors with a multi meter for resistance and all were relatively close to 16 ohms, i do get a code 32 egr when driving on the freeway, but that never really caused me any problems before...
Any ideas??

Thanks

When the engine failed to start, did it not even crank, or did it crank but not fire?

Ignition module maybe? I had the same sort of problem, just got off the freeway and the car died and wouldn't restart till it cooled off.

Same here. When my Ignition Module would heat up the car would die when at an idle. It never died under power/acceleration though. I pulled it and tested it at a local parts store, it failed all but one of the tests. I'd recommend to have it tested, chasing electrical malfuntions blows!

Alright, had the ignition module tested today, passed all the tests (ran it twice just to make sure). The cap didn't look to good, all the terminals(?) inside were corroded. I'm getting a new cap/rotor, but do you think that would cause this?

Thanks

If your egr is sticking open the car will stumble and possibly die. It can also fail to restart. Try disabling your egr and see if that fixs the problem.

How do I disable it? Its been throwing a code 32 for months and never had a problem with it before, but I am definitely willing to check it.

Thanks

You could either disconnect the connecter(which will throw a code) or plug up the vacuum line that controls the valve.

moduels wqill fail hot and work cold. think i'd just put a new one in since it seems logical and isn't hard to do or expensive.

If all the gauges acted funky for a second or 2 before it died, it could easily be one of the fusible links, which are smaller gauge pieces of wire down by the starter that act like fuses. Especially if there's other electrical things that also don't work. They go through a little metal tube to keep them off the exhaust, and the insulation chafes through, and they short to the tube and burn out.
