305 TPI Build....

I am set on building up a 305....
what kind of power am I looking at here.....
1) LT4
2) Vortec Heads (milled to 58 cc and cleaned up)
3) Hedman T.E.S. headers(1 5/8_
4) TPI vortec base plate
5) 1.6(1.5) rolor rocker (what are better for this set up)
6) upgraded igntion system

I have a 3" cat-back already, with K/N and an Airfoil(all came on the car)

Or I was thinking somethign more radicallll

1) a 305 destroked to 292
2) an LT-1 intake and matching cam

What kind of numbers there?

Too many missing variables to predict an HP number. I suggest getting Desktop Dyno 2000 and playing with it. Then you can see the effects various cams, heads, stroke and bores will have.

PS: If you scope out DD 2000, make sure you compare a 350 vs the destroked 305. Also, make sure to look at the cost of various alternatives too.

I made some wild assumptions, so I came up with 340hp@5000 and 402tq@3500. Make it a 292 (destroked 305? I think its not 292, but anyway) and you get 339hp and 386tq, and its basically less powerful everywhere... why am I not surprised by that. Take Glenn's advice, and you get 353hp@4500 and 451tq@3000. Again, why am I not surprised.

Keep in mind I made some guesses, I cant figure in the manifold (although the differences are going to be the same), and desktop dyno IMO is generous in the numbers.

1....I have the brand new 305 already.....I could hav emy brother buy it for his S10 but i think I like it. I am only look for 300-325 hp. and with the numbers you quoted I think I can obtain that. Only thing being the t-5....humm I think I will have to work double hard and look into the t-56 thing huh.

Depends on how you drive it. I have more HP than that in front of a T-5, although mine has some better parts in it than yours will. Its a mustang tranny tho, so the 1-2 drop is a little harder on it than the f-body. Mostly I abuse the car, and the trans is just fine. Theres about 15k on the trans. Try breaking it first, you might surprise yourself and many others.

The later mustang T-5's (like what I have) has different gears and synchros in it, the materials are a little better and the TQ rating as such is somewhere around 30ft-lbs higher than the ones used in the f-body. I also have a different input shaft that is stronger as well. The trans has a reverse synchro as well ( ), something you couldnt add to yours even if you wanted I could sit here and guess what the materials are, but I dont remember and I'd rather not guess right now, maybe when I get home I'll look again as to what they are and tell you later. Unfortunately its not something you can do to your trans, so as far as T-5's go you are stuck with what you have.
