Re: front axle adjustment

Strangely, I'm not surprised that you're still answering me. Thank you .
In fact, I have a tire completely worn inside and yesterday I realized that my left wheel was very inclined compared to the other. I have not settled the toe for now.
But I think going to see my garage but I do not know if he can do my Trans Am on his bench ... So with the values it can surely help.

Re: front axle adjustment

Sounds like a chamber issue. The specifications should be the same. I’m sure others will chime in if they have better settings for the alignment.

Re: front axle adjustment

I would check the front end for any play in the balljoints/wheel bearing. Thats usually a sign somethings worn.

Re: front axle adjustment

Hi,
Yes I checked everything that is links, kneecaps, silentblocs and I have not found any game.
When I turn to the left and back, the tire rips on the tar. So I'm going to look at the setting front train to get started

Re: front axle adjustment

Are you checking the ball joints with the jack under the control arm? the arm must be loaded to properly check it, otherwise youll never feel it

Re: front axle adjustment

When you say left wheel is this the American driver side (different people use left/right differently on cars and I have learned not to assume). In the states any alignment shop can look up the values and set it. That may not be the case in France though.

Is your car lowered?

These cars make a good bit of tire noise when turning them on dry asphalt when not moving so it could just be a simple alignment. Lower ball joint and the upper strut mount are the likely noise makers when turning, steering linkages are the likely issue if the car will not keep an alignment.

A very simple test would be to take a bubble level that measures vertical, park the car on a spot that a level shows is level and see if the top lip to bottom lip on the wheel is vertical or slightly leaning in. You can also put an angle finder app on your phone and get the specific angle (if you do this you can also compensate for un-level floor but it does throw it off some). Most European cars are set up with more camber than an F-body, this makes BMWs very sticky in corners, but makes f-bodies eat tires. So if the last alignment was done by a shop not use to working on imports (American cars are imports in France ) they may have set it too aggressively.

Re: front axle adjustment

No, the car is not belittling. So the steering wheel is on the left and when I sit and so I turn on my left the right wheel so passenger side grabs the ground ... this phenomenon does not occur in the other direction when I turn right. I think the train has not been adjusted properly because I have a wheel much more inclined than the other. So I will try the bubble level method and try to get closer to the factory settings.
Thank you all for your help, it's great internet for help while we are thousands of miles away.
You are really top !!!

Re: front axle adjustment

Check your idler arm, these go bad and the right (passenger side) wheel will not track right, this usually causes turning one way to be worse than the other based on how it loads the joints.

Also if you had the steering linkages off you can install the center link backwards and that will make the car drive perfect in a straight line but turns more than about 10 degrees will cause the car to drag one of the tires as the Ackerman is off.

Re: front axle adjustment

Hi ,
Sorry to have been away for so long. I'm coming to give you news of my trans am. First of all, more worries about getting started, she peeps around. I have not had too much time to devote to him for now but I do some ballads with.
In my region there is not this model so it fuels the curiosity of people.
Otherwise for my problem of train before a big adjustment was necessary as well as the change of the tires because these were much too old thus deformed.
I will ride like this this year and after start the restoration.
For info also the famous case that I installed to circumvent the VATS works very well, besides the small resistance on the ignition key fell and I start without worries more need coded key.
Here I wanted to thank you again for your help and will probably come back to you with some pictures of the restoration if you are interested.
Sincerely
Mike
