Going to be dropping my rear end, thinking about upgrading fuel pump

Hello everybody,

I am finally getting around to having my Torsen Carrier installed, since I will have the rear end out, I figured it would be a good idea to replace the fuel pump while im back there. Not sure if it was ever replaced, the car has around 50k miles on it, but none the less, I'd rather do it now than later.

I've got a mostly stock 305 with an aftermarket TB, but other than that I believe it to be completely stock.

I am wondering what would be my best bet for upgrading the fuel pump if I wanted to maybe swap the engine to an LS or a 350 later, or if I wanted to do some minor upgrades to my 305, such as the cam and maybe heads, bigger injectors, what have you.

Also, curious as to if I should install an adjustable fuel regulator and maybe a hot line from the alternator?

Would it be possible to ask for some links to any of these parts that you would suggest?

Any help is much appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!

The stock fuel pump would be adequate but it's old so replacement would be an excellent idea.

Just go with any of the many 255LPH offerings. AEM, Deatschwerks, or Walbro (loud). They are all perfectly adequate for even a hot 350.

Is there any in particular you would know to be more reliable than another? Also would one normally install a replacement sending unit when replacing the pump?

Know anyone who uses this one? https://treperformance.com/i-873-che...1985-1998.html

1 Year warranty is nice... Also, how exactly does one run 13.5 constant volts to the pump?

No never seen those before. Looks like cheap crap.

Haven't had an issue with any of the ones I mentioned. AEM and Deatschwerks are both turbine style pumps and are basically silent. The Walbro GSS342 is the same old USA made pump it's always been - same one included in the 82-92 Edelbrock kit. Don't cheap out on a fuel pump. It's too much work to get in there.

Cool, I'll get a turbine style then. It seems Deatschwerks only has them for the Corvette. I've seen you sugges this kit though. The DW200.
Are these plug and play into our Camaros? Would the 255lph rated for a 5.7 work in my 5.0?
Also still curious about running the line from the alternator or elsewhere? Is it necessary?

As far as a sending unit goes, should I just add it to the list? I was looking at the Spectrum FG20A

Re: Going to be dropping my rear end, thinking about upgrading fuel pump

I just got a new pickup at rock auto $55 same PN. I would not bother unless you need it. I only did it because I wanted an EFI pickup for my sniper conversion.

I went with a walboro 255 PN FPG002 from here

Re: Going to be dropping my rear end, thinking about upgrading fuel pump

Yeah that will work. Walbro is good - just loud. I'm swapping mine soon to a Walbro 450 LPH since I need the fuel for my Procharger setup - noise is not a concern when you need the volume.

Not necessary to change the fuel pump wiring for the 255. For larger like the 400 or 450 it's a good idea.
