Hi all, I'm new here - just got an 87 GTA with 35k original miles on it. The car is in great condition all over but has an issue where it loses power when accelerating around 3200 rpm and I have to then let my foot off to let it shift.
Plan was to change fuel filter, FPR diaphragm, then do fuel pressure test and potentially replace fuel pump.
However, one security torx screw on the FPR looks like is has been damaged - all others OK. I didn't expect that anyone would have been in there. On closer inspection, it looks like someone tried to repair a gasket leak on the intake manifold so perhaps they have. Very little space to work in there. Any ideas?
If I end up removing the fuel rail and FPR entirely, what should I replace while I am in there?
With the relatively low millage on your car, I would also go ahead and replace the injectors, as sitting for long periods of time tend to gum up the injectors. SouthBay Fuel Injectors (a Forum Sponsor) is generally to go-to place for fuel injectors. Also, members here get a discount.
Rebuild the crossover o-rings sk24 standard motor products. Still enough of a head to use vice grips to remover the tamper heads. You can replace with Allen heads . Microfasteners has them
Got the fuel rail off - fairly straightforward. One of the injectors is missing a pintle cap! They appear to be the originals, and from what I can tell there's no way that the cap can fall into the engine due to the diameter. I was able to remove the o-ring.
The pintle caps are on there really tight - I'm puzzled how this could have happened? Any chance it's been like this since the factory or should I stop everything and get a scope to look inside the cylinder?
