I’m rebuilding my 350 TPI, Its and 89 MAF, I spun 2 main bearings and 2 rod bearings cause my oil pick up fell off. Just looking for some info on what I have and what I bought and what I want to get to complete the rebuild. I have SBC rebuild kit, new crank, connecting rods, pistons, mounted and balanced. I bought new aluminum flotek 102-505 heads, I have a zz4 cam but might look to upgrade. I have American muscle venom 24lb fuel injectors, Edelbrock ceramic coated shorty headers with the air injection, flow master cat back 3” exhaust. I would like to get the First Performance intake but that’s just not in the budget right now so, intake runners and plenum will be stock for the time being. I will need a tune and I know who to go to just wanting some feed back mainly on the injectors heads and cam, I was told I can go up to 650 lift with hydraulic roller. I have pictures attached of my heads and a piston let me know what else you may need. Thanks for any input
Anyone have any input? I have been searching threads for similar stuff but I have not found the answers that I’m looking. I have learned a lot more. Any input is appreciated thank you
I should add I have flowmaster 3”catback exhaust, my cats are gutted, BBK underdrive pulleys, 180 degree thermostat and will be looking to eliminate the EGR and air injection. My air conditioning doesn’t work right now but would like to get it running again. To make an addendum to my original post the FIRST intake is possible now. I’m not trying to make a race car but something drivable and sounds nice but still looks kind of stock as well. I’m the third owner of the car and have had it since 2003 so it is my baby
I'm not very familiar with those heads but quick research seems to show they're a fair upgrade from stock. Properly set up, those heads and a zz4 cam will make a nice easy driver. The factory intake would be limiting the possible output on that combination, the FIRST is a good choice. As far as the injectors, make sure your tuner has the voltage offsets for them.
I ran those injectors on factory computer no problem with BBK adjustable FPR when I put the zz4 cam in. I had my heads ground and redone to support the cam. These heads were recommended from my shop I took my rotating assembly to, to get balanced. I’m going with Comp pro magnum 1.6 full roller rockers if I keep the zz4 cam but since I’m in a complete rebuild and have the funds I wanting something a little more choppy but not too extreme just not sure what. I’m planning on contacting Tuned Performance for my chip. I’m from Ohio
I'm almost in the same boat. I'm rebuilding an 89 5.7 TPI engine. I've read so much I think I'm back to square one. Anyways, I've been looking for heads that will work with the stock TPI intake since I don't want to spend money on the intake just yet. So I'll have to check out your heads. I think I need to find the heads that will pair with the cam I want and go from there. We want the biggest lopey cam which is still drivable as it will be driven and not a track car. We had looked at the zz4 and the LT4 Hot Cam. Have you found a bigger better cam or what'd you end up going with? Thanks, Carl
