Failed emissions bad

Hey all, went through emissions and failed with 3x the HC and a little high on Nox. I think the Nox will go down once i sort the high HC. Have a 1989 Firebird with the 5.7 TPI.
It starts and runs great, does smell rich though.
I have new plugs, cap and wires coming. Will also check for leaks after that. Anything else you all can point me at?
They almost killed it via overheating, have to come up with a plan for next time i go back. Thinking one of the carpet blower fans and telling them to use that as well. The fan they have even pointed down is way to high.

What injectors? What tune? What is your timing at? What do the plugs look like? What exhaust is on it?

Might want to change the O2 sensor while doing tune up stuff too.

Not sure, pretty sure full stock. Just bought it 2 months ago. It all looks stock under the hood.
Will be getting a timing gun to check the timing. Stock exhaust is still there, cat included.
Will update on plug conditions once I get the tune up done.

Make sure the EGR vacuum line is connected. Mine popped off years ago I failed for high NOX

Start with the timing after a good tune up. I typically have to retard my timing to 4* for my car to pass smog.
