Introduction, My Budget Build, And Questions For TPI Gurus

Hi all,
I'll start by saying thank you. This site and those of you who share knowledge have been monumental in my build, and education on how to diagnose and work on automobiles as a whole. I am extremely grateful. I bought this 1990 Formula in 2002 and have had a lot of fun modifying the 305 TPI over many years. It has sat two times. Once for 7 years in my brother's back yard protected by a plastic tarp and car cover. I pulled it out of hibernation(fuel pump, ignition components) and enjoyed driving it till I parked in the garage of the home I live in now. I went 4 years without starting it and so have had the fuel system and ignition system fun all over again! Let's start with the list of mods to the top end.

Custom CAI, Throttle foil, ported and siamesed plenum, 1st design SLP siamesed runners, ported stock lower manifold(all matched), World Products S/R Torquer heads(also port matched), Comp Cams Xtreme Energy w/.495 in 503 ex lift 112ls, Comp roller lifters, 1.5 roller rockers, Hooker Competition shorties, custom 3" exhaust, and custom tuned by me.

The car would start with starting fluid but stop once burned up. Sooooooo replaced fuel pump(Delphi HV), sending unit, cleaned tank, and installed hnew fuel filter. Fuel pressure is at 44(AFPR) and holds nicely. Before doing this I replaced the still stock(to me) distributor as the ICM was bad and the pickup was shot. Also plugs and wires. I was happy to find that the new(when I parked it) remote ignition coil was still good. Still no start without fluid. Did some more testing and found I had pulse via noid light, but 2 injectors ohmed out below 5.5.

I contacted Southbay Fuel Injectors! I called them up to ask advise about replacing the injectors with 22lbers. They took the time to listen and recommended the increase. The injectors were cheap(even on spring sale) and delivered in a really nice package(pics below). 5 stars and highly recommended.

Finally to my question! If you're still with me, you are a true car enthusiast and I owe you one.

If the injectors shorted the drivers out in the ecm, will I need to buy a new one or will it complete the circuit as normal and function properly with the new(Bosche D3) injectors? The ecm seems to be working as it's sending codes when it recognizes problems. I unplug the CTS, the EST, O2, and it gives the code right away. But I believe this could be false hope.

I know to change the injector size in the chip and will have to adjust VE tables. What else will I be looking to tweak in the chip?

Again, thanks soooo much in advance and I apologize for the length. Pics below of some of the work.

Start with injector voltage offsets, set flow then adjust ve accordingly

Agree with Tuned.

What's the p/n molded on the side of the injectors? Should start with 0280...

We can see what voltage offsets you might need.

Also, since you're already into the ECM with tuning, I would recommend getting TunerproRT if you haven't already, so you can take data and see what's going on. At that point, feel free to post the data and we can take a look and possibly make some other recommendations.

Thanks so much for the fast responses! I have the part#:
0280155823

I do have TunerPro RT and will log some data when I get it put back together. I've never exported a data log but will do some homework and get it done.

I appreciate you guys!

After you press the stop button after a data logging session, it'll prompt you to save the xdl file. Once you have the xdl file, you can post it here.

As far as the injector offsets, according to this thread, the OP had queried SouthBay about these very injectors...

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...after-all.html

You can see the pdf he posted in there (post #8) with the Ford datasheet. Even though the voltages in the datasheet don't match the voltages in the GM table, just get as close as you can. The rest can be tuned with the VE tables.

Thanks. Sounds easier than I imagined. I'm knee deep in old gasket and rtv removal right now! Lol

By easy, I meant the exporting of the data logs. I'm happy to have the information in that thread and downloaded the pdf. We'll see what the logs say once I get it fired up. As mentioned, offsets, flow, then ve tables. I'll post logs and would appreciate any feedback. You rock!

Re: Introduction, My Budget Build, And Questions For TPI Gurus

Ok! Finally got the car all put back together. The Injector Flow Rate has been set to 22. I am in TunerPro RT and find that the range in the Injector PW Correction VS. Battery Voltage table extends above and below the values of the data sheet. What is the best way to come up with those values?
Also, it seems like some suggest that the Injector PW Low Offset Vs.Base PW be zeroed out with these injectors. Is this the current consensus? Or is there a specific way to come up with these values?
I have searched and found mostly agreement on zeroing them out with a few saying it could be a bit hazardous. So sorry for the need for clarification. I have not worked with these tables and get a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information. Thank you for your patience and guidance!

I think you really only need to worry about the operating range of about 10-16V. If your system voltage gets beyond that you probably have other problems...

And yes, I typically zero out the low PW compensation tables.

Thanks again for your help and quick reply. Gonna burn it and try to get some logging done. Really excited to get it up and running again.
