Retrofit LT1 intake/EGR question
Retrofit LT1 intake/EGR question
I want to modify an LT1 intake manifold and put it on my 383 I'm building instead of using a mini-ram. Either way I won't be able to use my EGR and there is a chance that we will be getting emissions checks that require them looking for the EGR. I was wondering if I could put the EGR in the air duct running from the supercharger to the throttle body if it would still function correctly. If not does anyone else have a solution?

That's only have of it. You still need to get exhaust gases to it also.
No, no one has come up with a solution yet.

Couldn't I bend some kind of pipe off of the OEM pipes coming up from the headers to go to the new location of the EGR? it might look kinda bad but it would still work right?

I would think that you wouldn't want to put the EGR before the throttle body because you'd coat the throttle blades and passages, as well as the IAC passages with even more soot than they already get, plugging them up a lot sooner.

You may want to build a remote EGR similar to the vette, LT1 with a tube off the header into the EGR valve then a tube into the block-off plate on the back kof the intake.

Ok, so I just bought an LT1 intake and rails. My AFR heads have egr ports. I was wondering how I block these off? John, what intake gaskets do you use?? Just standard SBC ones? I think I may be able just to buy gaskets with no egr provisions, though.
Also, where did you mount your remote thermostat housing?

I mounted my remote t-stat housing on the drivers side inner fenderwell, right in front of where the hard fuel lines are. here's a pic, too bad it's a close up.

Here's a differant angle, follow the upper radiator hose and you'll see it.
