i dont know any real way to check for 1LE brakes but im sure someone else will come along to help with that. the fact that its 4 wheel disk makes it a little more believeable. the gm performance sticker was from someone who probably got bored or thought it looked good.

congrats on the car and welcome to the club. i just got mine in september of 2001 and its been a blast so far.

1LE would make the car worth more......they have ~12" rotors up front, does your car have A/C and all that...what engine/trans combo.

Welcome to the boards!

I got this from the FAQ.

Q: What's included in the 1LE Performance package?

A: In 1988, the secret showroom stock racing 1LE option (option level 0 IROC-Z)was first available; however, only 4 were produced. Then in 1989, the option became more well-known as 111 were produced that year. The package was obtained by ordering the following:

Level 1 IROC-Z with 5.0 TPI engine with 5 speed or 5.7 TPI engine
Optional axle ratio (G92) (305/3.45, 350/3.27) and its required options
Air conditioning delete (C41) (standard heater)

The package originally consisted of:
Fog lamp delete
Aluminum driveshaft (JG1) (part # 10085375)
Performance exhaust system (N10) (dual catalytic converters)
Special deflected disc shocks
Aluminum spare wheel with smaller spare tire (N64)
Lower control arms (part # 10164151)
Larger (11.86 inch) front rotors (part # 18016035)
Larger front spindles (part #'s 18016737 / 18016738)
PBR front, dual-piston aluminum calipers (part #'s 10132827 / 10132828)
Special swinging fuel pickup in gas tank and special 18 gallon baffled fuel tank for fuel pickup down to .5 gallon reserve to prevent fuel starvation in hard cornering
Some came with special 16" x 8" light alloy mesh wheels (XWL)

the front brakes will have dual pistion calipers and they will be aluminum. you should have a alum. drive shaft and alum. spare tire. you should also have 3.42 rear gears (GU6) (G92)

there also seems to be differant 1LE levels wich may be why there seems to be so many.(1SA),(1SB),(1SC),(1SD),(1SE)

Wich codes do you have any or all please list I am curious I do not have any codes some one keept it.

actually since its an 89 and a iroc its gonna be a 9 bolt (unless they only stuck 10 bolts on 1LE cars), so its gonna be a 3.45 gear.

I looked in a 91 camaro gm service manual that is all they list. I know some things get real grey from year to year and what gm puts in the service manual. I would bet your right and it has a 9 bolt. (3.45)

1LE History(long)

I am new to the list here. I am a former GM Canada employee and have plenty of f-car knowledge.

Yes your car is a legit 1LE. It sounds like it is also an RPO R7U car as well. This means your car is a factory GM Player's Challenge race car! These were the predecessors to the 1LEs. We had 74 of them (1988) in Canada whle the US only had 4. Ours were RPO A4U "Player's Callenge Package", while they were 1LE in the US. That package was originially developed in Canada for the series then offered in street versions. In fact SLP got started in f-body's when the series and GM commissioned them to develop an airbox for the Firebirds to decrease the hp difference between the Camaros. Thus the SLP cold-air package offered to this day! It actually worked to well, but the 'Birds were heavier so it evened out in the end.

These cars were mainly sold to racers only, but a few made it to the streets and many were converted back to street trim and sold as the series required a new car every year. Many of these cars are running around in Ontario,Quebec,Alberta and B.C. Mostly driven by unknowing owners! The series ran from 86-92, but the good cars came out in 88 w/the 1LE components.

This also explains the GM Motorsports sticker on the plenum. Those "factory sealed" engines came from the the Flint, MI engine plant and were fully blueprinted motors that were built along side the Corvette Challenge L98s for these showroom stock race cars. They usually made @15hp more than the regular 305 TPI cars and used a different PROM, supplied by GM at each race. Same sticker was placed on the Corvette Challenge cars.

Yes the car is very rare, you should send away your Vin# and $40 to GM Canada, they will give you a full history of that car. Too bad about the t-roofs, they do ruin the cars value somewhat, but you could change the roof skin.

I was working for GM Canada at the time of this race series and have tons of documentation. If you have any questions send me an e-mail.
