I posted this on the drag racing board and here too since it may be TPI specific.....I went to Englishtown last Sat and the 1st run I managed a 13.608 on a 1.798 with a hint of tire spin, which is disappointing since I ran 13.521 last Nov and since added SLP 1 3/4s and !AC. After that run I went slower and slower as the 60fts rose to 1.97-2.26 cause the line just kept getting more and more slippery but no matter what on EVERY run I ran 94.x MPH. Even on my 13.521 run I ran 94.7. There was a time where the car would trap at 98-99 MPH all day long and even saw 100.8 at one time on street tires. I know low 60ft times will make you lose MPH but why even if I spun, no matter what times I run, does the car trap at 94.x no more, no less any ideas?? I do run with a 1/4 tank of gas and I had 2 people say that could be the problem, as the gas isnt at a sufficient level and cant be supplied properly. Is the car leaning out due to the cat back, cut out, 2 high flow cats and the SLP 1 3/4s?? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated...
Heres the movies:
3 Runs As Seen Thru The Hatch
My 13.608 vs 10.683
Short Compilation When I was Closer to Stock
If you listen to the car on the full run you can hear it stumble and recover after the 1/8th or so. I figured Id get ateast 1-2 MPH and a tenth from the SLPs but as I said the MPH was the EXACT same, so maybe someone here can offer up some suggestions as to whats up, thanks!!

what other mods do you have done? and what was your exhaust systme before the SLP stuff? from watching your videos it seems that you run 1st gear awfully short. do you have an auto or stick? i shift my 700R4 manually (i have yet to let it shift auto, dont know how that will affect my times) at about 5500 rpms because it shifts about 4-4.5k automatically, i think i have a little more power left after that.i saw you at etown sat, you were the only other 3rd gen i saw in the morning. actually i believe you pulled up next to me for tech inspection, i was in my white Z28. anyway, dont be too dissapointed, i ran my worst times yet saturday (and that was the best weather i ever ran in). i ran a 15.142 @89.16 mph (2.32 60'), 15.294 @90.36 (2.432), and 15.267 @90.24 (2.422). my car has serious isues (heads and crappy headers/stock cat) as well as no traction from my peg leg 3.08 as demonstrated by dick 60' times. i only made 3 runs cause my friend had to be at work (wish i would have went alone!!!!) but i'm goin again soon, so i'll se what i cna do!
Mods for the 13.521 run: airfoil, crank pulley, MSD-6AL, MAT relocated, Hyperjunk chip and 160 T-stat, K&N w/ modified boxes, 8.8 wires, Flowmaster 2 chamber, cut out, 2 Catco cats, TPIS alum D.S., Spohn LCAs and adj PHB, STB, SFCs, rebuilt 700r4 with SLP 800 over stock RPM converter, shift kit and cooler(I let the tranny shift itself always) and it has factory 3:23s and I also ran those times on BFG drag radials 255/50/16s.
Since then I added SLP 1 3/4 headers and removed my dead AC system but got nothing out of it and I had the MPH issues all at 94.x MPH, I didnt even gain/lose anything in the 1/8th MPH either....
CamaroZ_85, I did see you there nice car!! It wasnt hard to spot cause we were the only 2 ThirdGens there the entire day until I left around 3:30 or so. I see by your 60fts you had traction problems as well. The line was like ice after the 1st run, Im not sure of thats just poor prep or my drag radials are on their last legs? Anyways once I figure something out here Ill be back there, Ill keep an eye out for ya and good luck!

Any hints on how to get my 60ft times where yours are? I already have 255 drags and the mods in sig.

Wasn't someone on the NE board talking about e-towns mph timers were screwed up this weekend? Just food for thought, i'd hate to see you beating yourself up due to timer error, lol.
Beyond that, well it could be anything. I have no idea as to what the state of your car is and what kind of tuning you've done.
You have to start out knowing all your tune up parts are good. You have to play w/ timing and fuel pressure to see what your car needs. If you're running the stock injectors, you might want to think about sending them off to get professionally cleaned by rich at cruzin performance. Something as simple as an injector imbalance could be hurting you. Do you have a scan tool on it? If not, how do you know you're not getting knock and losing all your timing advance (here's a hint, no scan tool, bypass the KS if you want to do tuning and be smart enough to get out of it if you get into detonation) You also have a relocated IAT. Do you have any idea how bad that screws up the fueling on a SD car w/ no PROM tuning in these cold temps.
Unless all of that was old news to you, i think you have an idea where to start.

Convert to an A4 and run a nice converter.Originally posted by GofasterFirebird

Seriously, you have a manual. The biggest change you can effect is learning how to drive it. Practice, practice, practice. Try every launch RPM, different attack rates on the throttle, different slip rates on the clutch, maybe even different clutches.

On friday I pulled a 60' of 2.131... I was pretty happy considering the problems Ive been having with the car. I dunno about eTown, but Atco was hookin up awsome off the line on friday!

Thats wierd, Mine shifts a 5500 On the button without manual shifting.
Ive noticed the 1st to 2nd shift to be at 4800 RPMs and then it seems to hold longer from 2nd to 3rd?? Ill take more notice next time out. The few times I shifted manually I went slower so I let the tranny do the shifting for me....
Ed thanks for the info some is old news some Im gonna have to sort out, and Ive heard that about Etowns timers but this was going on last year with my car as well. I gave the car a full tune up minus wires not so long ago so Im not so worried about that. One point you make is about the scan tool and KS. Ive done a little searching on this and its quite possible this could be the culprit, Ill be starting there as I can borrow a scan tool from a friend. As for the injectors I plan on having them cleaned when I swap for the TPIS intake, SLP runners, etc, do it all in one shot. I wasnt aware about how bad the MAT relocating screws with the fueling, its simple enough to plug back into the plenum and Ill try a run in the stock location and see what happens. I should have a good amount of things checked by my next trip to the track, if/when I find anything out Ill post about it, thanks again...

well my tranny came out of a parts Z that i bought....now i cant remember wheather or not it was ever supposedly rebuilt, but anyway it supposedly has a b&m crap kit in it amongst other things, so im hesitatnt to compare it to another trans. all i know is that it could carry 1st and second out just a bit more for my liking
whats the "KS" stand for? ive also done some mods to my vette, and while my mph went up only by 1 (i was expecting more), my ET stayed the same. i have also relocated my MAT, and you guys are saying that its actually better to leave it in the extremely hot manifold? arent alot of newer GM engines using a airbox-mounted MAT (all 93 & up 3.8L). i dont know much about these subjects, so if someone could please enlighten me...
figured some of it out ... KS = knock sensor.... SD car = speed density. now that i have that straightened out, does the relocated MAT have an effect on MAF cars like mine? thanks in advance
My 700 shifts at about 4500 rpm automatically. Makes a nice chirp when it shifts by itself, but when I shift manually I get better times.
As far as your best MPH becomming 94.X... Look at my sig and I haev somewhat similar mods with the exception of the suspension work that you have. I ran 14.4 @ 96 (2.2 60')with the stock manifolds, and when I get my SLP 1 5/8 headers, I ran a 14.4 @ 95 (2.2' 60). Basically, I am having the EXACT same problem as you.
ThirdGenZ28 92, I am from Central Jersey as well, you should IM me on AIM, GPA 0point0.

Ed brings up a good point, gotta be in at least as good of tune as it was on your previous runs...plus weather conditions need to be the same for a direct comparison.
Now the relationship with MPH is directly proprtional to your HP...since you did add a "known HP multiplier", you most likely need to tune for it/them.
Running mid 13's with true bolt-ons (as oppposed to "bolt -ins"), probably stretched the limits of your Hypertech chip, and you'll now need to tweak it via prom burning to get better results...realistically, adding headers should...at the minimum..require more fuel to keep the a/f ratio happy..losing the A/C system shoud have yeilded somehting as well, just from the loss of lbs..not so much parasitic drag loss, but gained something anyway.
hell...if you'd never run the car before and posted mid-13's EVEN with the headers...I'd still call your car a Freak
