HELP! WOT stinks....really....

I'll drive around town and the car is fine. Once I get on the highway and give it WOT, there's a terrible smell. Like someone just lit 50 books of matches next to my face, only worse. I smell it for a little while after WOT too, what could this be from??? It's not a gas smell and it's not rubber from my tires.

If it still smells after WOT...get out of your car and see if you can pinpoint it. My "guesses" would be catalytic converter, type of gas your using, transmission frying, something from your engine bay (hose, wire).

Well I've tried pinpointing it but for some reason I can't track down the source. My tranny is almost brand new, and the cat I bought maybe 5 months ago? I bought a Walker Hi-Flow cat, is there any bad rep for these to go bad? If it is the cat, wouldn't I have other issues as well besides just a stink after WOT? I guess it might be a hose or wire burning in the engine bay, but I think by now whatever it was that was burning, would've been cooked by now. Any other suggestions?

Try looking for any grease or oil that might be leaking on exhaust pipes...also check valve cover leaks

does it smell like exhaust? you could have a nice little leak out of the AIR tubes on the manifolds, and they are leaking into the cabin when you're under WOT and it's pouring out toxik fumes.

Solution: buy headers.
Ghetto Fix: keep the windows rolled down

If you are smelling Sulfur (like a burning match) its your Cat, thats the only place that smell comes from. The reason may be your slow in-town drivings is not generating enough heat for the Cat
to operate properly. My opinion:

I wouldn't really describe it as an exhaust smell...so I'm gonna lean more towards the cat as the cause. Like I said, it's only during WOT and a couple minutes afterwards. Does Walker have a rep for this kinda thing to happen to their cats? If I immediately get off the highway when this smell appears, my RPMs go from constantly being 1000 in Drive, down to 750, and the car almost stalls out. The RPMs will stay like that for awhile, then go back to normal after driving for a few minutes on the road. Does that have anything to do with the horrible smell I'm getting??

I don't know about the Walker Cat, and it may not be made for you car. What engine do you have?? MY first thought would be a clogged Cat. I would replace it with a Catco Cat from Summit with one that matches your system. Its maybe the cheapest way to get rid of the Rotten Egg smell and get your performance
back, I would try this first before looking for engine problems,
my opinion. Good luck and keeps us informed.

I put a walker cat on my K5 Blazer with 3" exhaust and that baby stinks. Do not buy walker cats.

Well I talked to my mechanic and he said if the smell I'm getting is from the catalytic converter, that it's normal and shouldn't be worried about. So I should let my car smell like rotten eggs?!

My opinion is the Catayltic converter should not smell and it is not normal. Bite the bullet and buy a new Catco cat and return your old one to the place you bought it from as devective. Even a Walker cat should have some sort of Warranty. Whatever you do get it off your car.

I have two new cats on my car, and they smelled for about a week, and then the smell went away.. but that smell was more of a burning aluminum, or metal of some sort... not a rotten egg smell..

My exhaust smelled for a little while too.. but it all went away. I would swap out the catalytic.
