What cam to use for LT1-L98
Ok guys, I need a cam. With the setup in the sig, and a set of iron Pro Lightnings how much cam should I run. Is the Lt4 hot cam too small? It should be a dual pattern cam because of the N2O. Any suggestions? I know AFRs are best but these Pros flow pretty damn good and besides, I can't afford AFR, unless someone has a pair for sale for a resonable price
I personally would look at something like Crane part #109831. 222/230 .509/.528. Pulls right up to 6500 rpm (though you may want to look at an AFR rev kit), and your 2800 stall converter will put you right into the torque curve. You can get a pretty much identical cam from Comp as well, and it will be around $30 cheaper from summit. The LT4 hot cam is of course much cheaper, but to get the full effect you need to buy the 1.6 rockers, because don't forget the Hot cam's advertised specs are with 1.6, not 1.5. If you decide to go with the HOT cam, the best price I've found on it is gmpartsdirect.com.

Cam choice
I am swapping from the CompuCam to the LT4 Hot Cam in my IROC with the 1.6 Roller Tip rockers I have installed the int and exh. #s are .525 for both. According to the desktop dyno that should help my motor build 420HP at the crank and so about 340RWHP
Though my L98 is what you might call "modified"

There is an identical cam available from GM Performance under part# 12370846 price is $234.44 from Jones Parts Center. I believe this cam made by Crane as well.

Yes, that would be the monstrous 305 Hi-Perf. cam. Here are the specs.....it a bit bigger than the above cams.
Lift w/ 1.5 rockers .539"/.558"
Dur @ .050 234/242
LSA 112
might be just a bit big...
Although, what do you guys think?

Although, what do you guys think? I'd say that might be a little big for a 350, thought it's very similar to what I whas running in my firebird's 406. With this cam in the 406 I was running very low 12's. In my experience going with that big a cam in a 350, with the other components you're talking about I'd bet on you actually running around 2 tenths or more slower. Without a rev kit, you'll hit bad valve float before you hit it's peak rpm. If you want to turn those kind of rev's switch to a solid roller cam. I'd look at one with around 280/290 advertised duration (not .05). When you look at the .05 specs it will look huge, It'lll probably be the smallest solid roller that whatever company you look at offers. But it will rev quicker, higher, and more stable due to the lighter weight. On the other hand you'll be doing lash adjustments (pain in the ***). On the other other hand
I'm running a similar custom grind solid roller in my firebird's 406 now and running low 11's NA on 92 octane and (with slicks). I'm right on the ragged edge of detonation though. And I have to run race gas to use the nitrous, but then it get's stupid fast. It's also a lot more expensive! You'll have to spend another 250-300 on the solid rollers, since the oe ones will no longer work.
