Weiand EFI Tunnel Ram pics

http://community.webshots.com/album/32977055DOoEGC

Here is the base - I was trying to get a good shot of the fuel rail mount - Its basically an aluminum L bracket on top of a 1/2in metal sleeve with a bolt going through the bracket and sleeve screwed in between the injectors- the intake came with post to mount the fuel rails but I couldn't use em so I cut them off

http://community.webshots.com/photo/...33120997dyUtmE

This is the under side of the plenum - made from an 8x3.25in aluminum C - channel (on top) and a 8x0.25in al. plate (bottom) brazed together- overall dimension is 14x8x3.5 volume came out to be 265ci -

the throttle bracket is made from .25x.75in flat stock - T shaped with 2 0.5 in squares cut into it for the cruise and throttle cable -

I cut all the holes with a drill press and test fitted the aluminum plate on the tunnel ram to make sure those "four leaf clover" shaped holes lined up

Its bolted to the tunnel ram with four bolts

http://community.webshots.com/photo/...33121031MuWDrH

finished product - the four plugs on top allow access to the four bolts holding the plenum to the base - get a long allen wrench and one of the telescoping magnet pins -

Heres a good shot of the plenum showing the epoxy wedge shaped spacer I had to put on the plenum to get the throttle body to point down 10degrees to clear the hood

**this is actually the second plenum - the first was 14.75x7x4.25 and it worked fine although taller - there are other reasons why I had to ditch it***

http://community.webshots.com/photo/...33121096IbUzDp

better pic of the throttle bracket - still not that clear
http://community.webshots.com/photo/...33121129LjEyUm

runs good for now with a fastchip burned for a LTR type - this intake pulls 19inches vac whereas the LTR would only get 14-15- not sure why that is

well I guess thats it for now

Excellent work there. I'm working on almost exactly the same thing, although the plenum will be smaller. I'm gonna use some fuel rail stock, what kind of fittings did you use for the fuel crossovers? I'm still up in the air about the fuel regulator. How did you solve that? Is this a 350 you are running this on? I'll be posting my pics as they are available. Nice job!

That's DAMNED impressive work.

And you know what all that extra vacuum means.... you can run a bigger cam.

Thanks I appreciate it

I didn't write a word about the fuel system- I use an Aermotive 2 port Afpr - its mounted on one of the brake booster bolts with a bracket - and the fuel line splits to each fuel rail the other end of the fuel rail is plugged - I used brass barb fittings - nothing real special

yeah I have a 355, afr -58cc with an LPE cam 0.525lift 219dur and 1.6rr - dual exh LTH Xpipe bullets tremec 3.73gears - and I have PLENTY Low end Torque even from off idle

Jim - A bigger cam? - I was thinking the same thing but this one is pretty good - range 1600-6200- but it IS designed for a superram ...

the base alone PN 5954 - it was $270 incl shipping
the base has extra material above the intake ports where I drilled and honed holes to place the injectors - after cutting the fuel rail mounting post off - you dont need separate bungs to weld on

the base is not a perfect casting - I had to trim some of the material from the sides of the injector flange to get them all uniform before measuring and marking the position to drill - then I used a dremel tool with 300, 600 grit sand paper to get the same dimensioned hole as was on the Edelbrock base I swapped out

converting the base was the hardest part to do - knowing that $270 might go down the drain if I screwed it up

Question for Kenn

Hey I wondered if the injectors stick down into the port at all or are they shooting down into a short recess before the runner? Also what did you use for fuel rails and what was the cost? Did you have any problem mounting the sensors and other misc on the intake? Thanks, Dave

The injectors stick out about 1/16-1/8in into the intake runner - and shoot straight down to either the back of the valve or the base of the intake just in front of the valve - its hard to tell

I drilled the injector bores 1/2 in from the outer edges of the injector pad straight down to keep it simple but I think there is room to angle the injectors inward to direct the spray directly at the valve - considering the spray angle of the injectors

Fuel rails were $20 each from Holley - universal, non-drilled 12in long

Yeah I had problems finding a tap the size of the IAT and brake booster vac fitting which are the same - I sealed all the vacuum fitting with teflon and later with gasket maker also while chasing vacuum leaks - it works could be better - I used o-rings to seal the throttle cable bracket and MAP sensor bracket bolt holes.

PLEASE send me the detail of your buildup and how much you would charge to do a complete one for ME!

If you wont -- at least consider giving up some templates and part numbers and definately let us know when you fire it up!

Hey Gents
I'm gonna be tied up for a while - I'm working on my next mod - 185K garage to put the car in -the move should be all done next week.

I'll do what I can to help you - short of building another one mainly because I think you'd be better off having someone with more experience and better tools to convert the tunnel ram and make a plenum and also to improve on what I did -

-the injectors could be angled by someone with more experienced to optimize the spray direction
-my plenum mounting can be made more user friendly - a removable top would be nice
-the plenum volume can be made to suit your combo
-the fuel injector rails can be easily mounted to the plenum with a bracket

20/20 hindsight at work here
I'll be back next week
stay UP
