im new. what mods to make over 450hp on a tpi 350
I have a 89 iroc z with a 350. it is completely stock with 71000 miles on it. i dont have any idea on what mods to do to get atleast 450+hp, and stay smog legal. this is what i had in mind. if any can help it would be greatly appreciated.
ati procharger d1sc 12lbs
edelbrock cat back
edelbrock tes
either the edelbrock intake and runners
or the superram intake and runners
i know edelbrock makes heads for tpi but im not sure if they are the best.
i dont know if this is a good setup or not. if anyone has any suggestions please help. i use to own a mustang, and it smokes the hell out of my camaro, and i need to be able to beat it. also what cam can i use that is smog legal?? thanks for the help.

if you plan on getting to 73,000 miles, plan on a whole new forged rotating assembly to withstand that sort of horsepower.
no nitrous, if you get pulled over in cali with nitrous they can tow your car. it happened in my 83 stang. and your saying that the stock block cant handle 450 hp?? if thats the case then i might need to just sell this car. thats only 1.28hp per cubic inch. my stock mustang motor handled 1.32hp per cubic inch. so i know this 350 block can handle atleast 450. can anyone give me any suggestions on mods to do to the car aside from nitrous.

Why does it have to be the number 450HP?? What times do u want to run??

I love tough guy talk. Having nitrous isn't illegal. USING it is. I never said a damned thing about the block not handling it, but if you think a stock rotating assembly is going to put up with 450hp for long, especially under forced induction, then I guess you're a gambling man. it doesnt have to be 450 exactly. also im not interested in running any times, i dont go to the track i just like a very fast street car. and also the last thing i said wasnt tough guy talk, i was just saying i hope the block can handle 450 plus hp. and you also have to remember, nitrous is hazardous material. yes your car will get towed if you have it. once again i am going off of experience, i have gotten pulled over with nitrous in my 83 stang, and it got towed. so i was just stating a fact. but anyways back to my original question. guys i just want a very fast street car, that can beat my old mustang. my old mustang ran low 12's on street tires, and high 11's on slicks. so i need to be able to smoke him. we have a 1000 dollar bet on this race. thanks. also no flame towards anyone.

Well, if u have alot of $$ u can do it. There's a dude here running mid-low 12's with a 305 TPI and an ATI, so u see what I'm saying.

Yes, I concur that having N20 is not illegal. It is emissions legal in places. Again you just can't get caught using it. I think the 15.7 gallons of gas you carry is much more dangerous than the n2o. together, well different story.
I would say do the 10lb procharger thing but buy better headers.
I personally would do a NA 383 with AFR heads though.

Get a 383 stoker kit, AFR 195cc heads, mini ram, SLP TPI runners, a new cam and don’t forget to do an upgrade to your 700R-4 because it won't handle a 500 ftlbs of torque. There you go 450 HP and a 500 ftlbs of torque, a TPI torque monster :hail: You will win the bet, trust me

Mohammed - first of all, theres way more than what you posted that is needed to make 450hp. Second, with a "Mini-ram", there's no need for SLP runners (The TPIS Mini-ram is basically one piece like the LT-1 intake).
If you want to make that kind of power, here is my combination and it's naturally aspirated (no blower, no nitrous). Also keep in mind that every motor is different. You can build 10 motors with the exact same parts and machine work in all 10 motors and they will all make different HP numbers.
Heres my combo:
Stock 350 block: bored .030 over, 0 deck, four bolt splayed main caps, toque plate lined honed...........
Stock crank turned and balanced
Trick flow h-beam forged bushed rods (for floating pin pistons)
Lunati forged floating pin pistons (with the heads milled,
= ~11.1 to 1 compression)
Cam: Hyd. roller .536/.544 lift 224/230 duration @.50 112*LSA (specs with 1.6 rockers) Comp lifters and springs (cam kit)
Heads: GM aluminum fastburn heads, ported to 282cfm @.500 lift / 286cfm @.550 lift, changed valves to manley 2.02/1.60 valves with 5 angle valve job, changed springs to match cam (comp)
Intake: Vortec TPI base port matched to heads, runner entries also ported, ported upper plenum (TB ports opened up to 58mm/egr walls milled/runner entries are siamesed), SLP siamese runners (also mildly ported), Holley 58mm billet TB (1050cfm) with coolant bypassed. 26lb injectors, AFPR set to 48 PSI.
MSD ignition: (billet distibutor, 6a ignition box, blaster2 coil, 8.5mm super conductor wires (NGK plugs)
Tuning: www.fastchip.com (custom chip).
Cooling system: Evans cooling system (waterless coolant), edelbrock high flow aluminum water pump. Jet cool fan switch, BE-COOL 3 core radiator with the dual electric fans both wired to the cool fan switch.
Exhaust: 1 3/4in Hooker super comp long tubes (coated 2210's), Corsa 3 in. cat back, custom y-pipe, CATCO 3in high flow cat, 4th gen tips
Tranny: 97 model T-56 6-speed with dual disc Mcleod clutch, pro 5.0 shifter
Rear end: Moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears
Suspension: All spohn (if I can help it)!! They make good stuff.
And all the current bolt-ons that I have. There are misc. things that I havent mentioned, but I dont want to type forever. If you have any more questions, post them on this topic and I'll help ya in any way I can.
I may be selling my heads and going with Dart Pro-1's or maybe AFR's, all depending if I use the ACCEL TPI intake.

what is the price range on a motor like that? that sounds like something i may be interested in building. i would just hold onto my l98 motor, and use that to pass smog every two years. get back at me with price info, and where can i purchase the vortec intake you were speaking off. one more questions, in a magazine they purchased a 383 truck motor, swapped cams, changed valve springs, swapped intakes, and made 460hp and 500 ftlbs of torque. now i might follow that route also if i decide to just build a brand new motor. thanks for the info.

fist off.. your mustang came with factory forged internals.. so it could take more aftermarket boltons.. now.. GM, in all their brilliance, has given us cast cranks and such.. and i'm pretty sure that stuff hates NoS and forced induction.. so u gotta replace the bottom end..
you might hold out with ur' bottom end for a while..
but if it were me.. i'd stroke it and supercharge it if you want a quick way to get lots of HP and TQ..
