Replacing heads, cam, and intake very soon...comments please
Hey all. I'm extremely new at this, so I would appreciate any suggestions y'all might have. After a couple of weeks of research, I found a combo that I think I'll like.
TF 23* heads, edelbrock TPI base, slp siamese runners, and ?? cam
I'm not really trying to burn up the strip, I just want a quick street car with an occasional weekend at the track...for a decent price.
Any comments? or especially suggestions on cam?
Thanks,
Matt

I like the vortec combo better than that one. Vortec heads $420, SDPC manifold ~400, and I am not too fond of the slp runners. So basically you can save 400 on the heads. Also, on the trick flows, I am not sure the chamber size. I thought it was 64-67cc. I would want a bit smaller.

Yeah, I looked at that option. But If I bought the vortec heads, I would have to buy new springs to have lift over .500. The springs, plus the $400 base has sorta lead me away from that direction.
The reason I was looking at the slp siamese runners is for one thing I can't afford the $475 that AS&M wants. Plus, from what I've read, SLP leaves you plenty to do all the porting you want. And I'm now leaning toward the comp cams with .495/.502 lift.
Anyone else have any comments about the vortec package? Or any other suggestions.
Thanks,
Matt

Why did getting new valve springs lead you away from getting the Vortec heads? You have to get the new springs anyway if you were to use the stock heads. Plus I thought that the TF 23* heads would cost about the same as the Vortec's and the new base plate. Cost of Vortec's, Baseplate, and springs(considering you even need them) is about $900. How much are the TF heads alone?

Not to keep pushing the vortecs on you, but everyone always says they don't want to spend the $400 on the intake. The edlebrock is $360 from summit, is $40 that much to scare everyone away for a good deal on heads? Anyway, I have the vortec heads and base. (I have the SLP runners, but havent got a chance to install them yet) Its a pretty good combo so far. Also you can get the vortec heads already modified for higher lift from scoggin dickey for $600, I got mine from a local comany, $500 and no shipping cost.
As for a good cheap cam, check out the ZZ4 cam, inexpensive and proven fast. If you want a little more kick go with the LT4 Hot cam. Both available from Soggin Dickey www.sdpc2000.com. (Or they come up used pretty offten)

I appreciate everyone's suggestions. $600 for the modified vortecs seems like a good deal. I will try to give them a call for info. I was very interested in the LT4 Hot Cam at first, and that may be what I go with.
Also, I didn't consider this in the price before, but scoggin dickey's wharehouse is located in Lubbock, so I could pick it up here with no shipping costs.
