Trans Am/Firebird owners, please step inside(help with intake)

Ok, I'm looking to make my own CAI setup for my Camaro, and I'm pretty sure all the Trans Ams/Firebirds intake's go from the throttle, turn to the passenger side and go into some sort of box or something right? Can anyone post a picture? I have a MAF setup and I'm looking for a boot/bellow or whatever you want to call it to turn towards the passenger side that can connect to the MAF sensor. I was also thinking, if the you guys' intake is like I said, and turns to the passenger side and into a box, couldn't I just go to a junk yard or something and pull the intake off of a bird or trans am with MAF and use it to make up my own custom CAI? Thanks. I got some B-day money, and if you guys can verify this for me, I plan on making a trip to a local F-body salvage yard

SLP makes the Cold Air Induction Package for $219. The factory setup is very similar except for the airbox. Maybe someone can post a picture of theirs.

If you do happen to go to an f-body yard and find a "box" in the intake of a firebird/trans am...don't bother taking it. IT's what we're all trying to get rid of. The tubing from the newer birds (88?-89) is what you're after. why don't you just use the CAI mod for camaros though(the ramair through the y-intake)? I'd much rather have that.

I'm thinking about going with that ram air in the fog light area now though. What i really want from the bird/trans am is the 90* rubber off the throttle that can hold the MAF sensor on the end. The reason I really want this stuff for under hood cold air induction is because I want an open filter type of thing like the civics and rice burners have. A friend of mine put a generic intake on his civic, and ONLY the intake, and it made it sound beastly. It was pure engine growl, no exhaust, just the engine noise. I really REALLY would like this for my car. Imagine: if it can make a 4 banger sound good, what would it do to a domestic V8? Also, the 'shhhhhhh' sound it makes while sucking is nice too.

Do a search on "air intake" in the tpi section and you will get lots of info, including pictures of home made setups. look at the one titled "air intake" dated 28 march from zach and there is a nice picture of a setup using MAF. Member mtccl used a piece of tubing between the engine and the MAF. He also did not move the charcol canister. I saw another one that did move the canister and routed the tube and MAF over the top of the heater hose. I did mine over the top using a 3 inch od, 13 inch long muffler pipe ($3.00), a 90 degree rubber elbow ($8.98 at lumber yard) and a few 3 inch to 3 inch rubber pcv pipe connectors. I moved the canister over toward the radiator, relocated the relays, and was able to get the standard sized air filter to fit. I will change to a K&N filter as soon as I can pick it up. I found a metal lid to cover one end of the filter (a citranola candle bucket lid), and a 3 to 3 rubber connector that fit over the maf elbow and went into the air filter. I will glue all those items together on the K&N and add a clamp. I dressed it up a bit by using the 3 to 3 connector with the metal covering on the tube to MAF.

I think this is what your after or at least an example to show people what your looking for.

http://exit3.i-55.com/~davidlt/air_intake.htm

You should be able to just buy the elbow from a MAF equiped firebird from a junk yard for cheap. It way just take some searching.

Thanks Lurch, that's what I'm looking for. The 90* rubber bend, but able to connect a MAF sensor to the end of it. Isn't that where the MAF sensor hooks up on a MAF 'bird or T/A? Just after that 90* bend?
