Time for new trans...what to get

I am bout to buy a new transmission for my 87 IROC-Z and i need some advise. Currently it has the 700R4 in it and it is toast. I want to get another 700R4 cuase it would be just a direct bolt up.

I am also building an engine and my goal is to peak (at the flywheel) up to about 400 horses and borbably about the same torque. I am still debating whether to keep the 350 or bump it up to a 383 but i want to go forced induction. I was just on summit and jegs and was looking at the TCI transmissions for $1200. I heard TCI is a good company so i wouldnt mind paying that much..but it says max hp 450 withOUT a supercharger. If i want to run forced induction What kind of Trans should i be looking at?

OR i am thinking about going with the T56!! I know it can handle the power and it is only a little bit more money (used of course). BUT i dont want to have to do a bunch of $h!t riggin' to get it to work. When i have time i will read the tech article but any additional info or input would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Event though it's worth it. If your going with a 383 and a forced induction no 700-R4 can handle the amount of power.

Soon or later you going to replace your 700-R4 with a T56 so do it right from the first time.

Hey, that ebay T56 is an LS1, in case you didn't know that won't work with your engine. You need to get one from a LT1.

I'm not sure what the ratings are. He is also a member here at thirdgen.org. He has helped me out before.

What I understand is that every tranny that he builds is custom to your application, and I would not be suprised if he knows how to get them to hold up to 600 hp.*

*-I could be wrong.

Once I get enough money, my fried 700R4 will be replaced with a pro-built.

Later,
Jesse

The Street/Strip version can handle around 550 horsepower, and if you need it to hold more then I can install the sleeved input drum for an additional $250.00, good for about 100 more horsepower. We are looking into different areas to see if it can handle more than this, but right now the jury is still out.
