Everyone with 6-speeds in here!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I am now making shift pattern indicators with the 6-speed shift pattern for our cars. I make them out of 2 tone plastic and is engraved with an engraving machine linked to a computer (no paint) and they will never fade!! 82-89: Black face with white lettering, 90-92: Black face with yellow lettering. The peice fits directly over the 5 speed shift pattern square on the thirdgen 5 speed console piece (boot). The need for one of these arose for me as I'm currently doing the swap on my 91Z. I can also bevel the edges (this basically outlines the piece in white or yellow and it looks nice). All you have to do is either super glue it over the old pattern or double-side tape (what ever you prefer). Glue or tape is not included, but I'll pay for shipping (US only).

Non beveled piece: $14.00 us
Bevel piece: $15.00 us

ANy of you 6-speed guys interested? I should have pics soon of my 5-speed boot with the 6-speed pattern on it.

Sounds like a nice finishing touch. May be a bit pricey but I'll hold teh final judgement on that till I see pictures :lala:

they look good. mike brought one by the other day and of corse i bought one . i had been meaning to buy one but...ya know i am a little lazy. anyhow the price is not bad considering how much you have spent on the swap itself already, might as well ad the finishing touch.

I looked at the other shift pattern indicator that was on the link in the above post. They look nice, however mine are $11 cheaper, mine wont crinkle like his (mine are plastic and a little thicker), my lettering wont ever peel or scratch off, and I pay for shipping!

To Brandon (screamin demon) - I will be replacing yours with a new one (the new batch came out even better!!!!) I was able to make them a hair smaller for a perfect fit. The beveled ones look cool!! Do you want your new one beveled? Let me know!!

To all - I should have pics in a week or so (I have to finish shooting the roll before I can develop the film).

Sorry about that guys, I forgot to post my e-mail address (I typed the post at 3:00am )

But anyways, my e-mail address is fmsaff@yahoo.com

e-mail your name, address, year model of Camaro, and if you want the bevel-piece or non-beveled piece. I'm waiting for my film to be developed and I'll post the pics on this post when I get them back from the photo place.

Dam Dude,

Why would you develop a competing product against a fellow thirdgenner who has spent so much time in bringing this to our community? Is $25 vs $15 reason to scam someone out of an original idea? How do you know Zug's plate design will crinkle/peel/scratch? I have a sample plate and it looks very nice to me. For those that didn't know about Zug's plate just do a little research. He has brought a lot to our community even though he doesn't hang out on this board that much.

Finally - this belongs in the classifieds, not advertised on this board.

Tim

one word...

m.o.n.e.y.

I thought this would happen sooner or later...

My plates are very nice, I think, and theres alot of work in the image used to make the numbers match the OEM style thirdgen (not 4thgen), and the THIN plate is so it hides itself and does not stick up. Who said they peel??? I beat the heck out of the painted side one with the sharp side of a butter knive 20 times and the aluminum dented and no paint came off. the expensive powdercoating process sticks like teflon!

I don't mean to make pricewars or anything, but I have sold like 2 at $25. that price is for people who don't "mention" lists or something, people that I KNOW arent out to re-sell, that don't know that I'm on thirdgen email list and mafb list. I had one on ebay that went to 39, I sold it for 25. the last ebayer got 2 for his bid price of like 22. Its casual... but as a rule, yes, the price is 25. anyone who paid less was an exception. the initial offering I did was $7. the new plates use 3m VHB and are cut using a high dollar machine... and yes, I want to do the profit thing so the price went up. I'm just some dude, not a company who has alot of time or energy to market or do packaging every night... price is set so I don't get flooded. it IS very nice though and there are 2 of us who get a little hobby money from each sale. Dan did an excelllent job in tweaking the manufacturing. It keeps me in exhaust-gaskets and synthetic thats about it ).

(warning, blatant advertising...)
If you're going to do it, do it right. ten bucks difference? your thirdgen is worth it, I know it is

BTW, I'm not going to participate in any negative back-and forth here. If you have questions about my product, private mail me dzug@eecis.udel.edu .. I don't hang out here in the boards.. not that its not a nice place, I just stick to what I have time for. I'm on the [3] thirdgen mailing list. my website is

http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~dzug

seeya!

To (Thatplateguy) - I didnt even know you had offered or made these when I needed one for my car, therefor, I made one! I also made a few more in case people needed them. In the above post with a link, it mentioned if you peel it off once stuck down, it will bend because it's aluminum. Also most 3rd geners dont have the extra money to spend on finishing touches like this particular piece, so I offered it at $2 over what I have invested in each piece. By the time I mail it, (once you minus the $.34 stamp) thats only a $1.66 profit) I am not in competition with you and I did say that your shift pattern piece looked nice. Do you make them with yellow lettering for a 91-92 Z-28? If so then there is no need for me to make any more. I do have a couple of each (beveled and non-beveled) for a different look if anyone would like one. I will be e-mailing you (thatplateguy) for futher info. Again, this or the above posts were not meant to offend or take away anything from anyone. Talk to ya guys soon when I have the pics!!

L8r,
Mike

Its funny how these things work

Just a chime here: Dave Zug and I have been working on the shift plates since August of 2001. He did the graphics and most of the marketing. I'm doing the manufacturing. I guess we havent marketed enough if you havent heard of them. Ah well, that happens sometimes.

I guess there is always room for alternate designs: It offers all of us third genners a choice.

Well, FWIW, the aluminum design is a polyethelyne powdercoat over .016" aluminum plate. The pattern is laser etched through the powdercoat and into the aluminum. It should never chip or fade. This plate is designed for PERMANENT installation. You should never have a need to "pop" it off your console. The adhesive is the finest quality stuff I could find. 3M VHB. I had to buy it in bulk from an industrial supplier. The powdercoat is manufactured by Tiger Drylac.

So, I guess it comes down to choice. Do you want plastic, or aluminum? BTW, I can probably get the pattern put onto a Kevlar sheet in case anyone is interested...

I havent even told DAVE about that option yet because there are some huge startup costs. However, in bulk, this might not be a bad idea.

Dan, I actually was going to suggest that some light yellow powdercoating be applied to the sheets BEFORE the black, and that if the laser power were turned down, the effect might be that the 91 / 92 yellow lettering is simulated? worse that can happen is it burns all the yellow off and the plates look the same as they do now.

I like the Kevlar idea.. has marketing 'gimmick' value somewhat as well.

Oh, and I don't know about others doing the swap, but mine is epoxy'd down and I'll never remove my T56 If I do have to remove the plate, it will be from damage from a meteor strike, and at that point I won't care that it is bent after I remove it

To (Thatplateguy) - If you can make one with yellow lettering, I'll take one!!

To all - I also had stickers made out of vinyl. I should get them back in a week. I'm waiting to post pics of both designs, they all look cool!

Again, I'm not doing this a become a millionaire I'm just doing this if any of my bro's here want something different!

Godspeed to all,

Mike

Yes, Dave Zug's is designed specifically to match the lettering in your Firebird.

It's white on black textured aluminum.

I'm hoping to post some new pictures, but you can see a rendering at Dave's site (as posted earlier on the thread) or here:

I make them in 2-tone plastic in blk/white, and blk/yellow. I also can bevel the edges to outline the piece. I sell the plastic shift pattern indicators for $14 for non-beveled and $15 for beveled. I also just started making vinyl sticker shift pattern indicator (just peel and stick on) I sell those for $8. I ended up using the sticker (just my personal preference). I have a few of each kind left but I can make more in need be. If anyone wants one just shoot me an e-mail at fmsaff@yahoo.com

To -(Thatplateguy) _ did you ever make one that had yellow lettering? I ended up making a sticker for mine with yellow lettering since I have a 1991 Z-28.

How about the 88-92 Firebirds with the clear, lighted 5-speed shift pattern. Anybody have any luck making these in the 6 -speed pattern?
