700r4 questions

ok my tranny is dying...well according to the tranny shop it is. from what i have read, the v6 AOD trans is the same as the v8 correct?? if i went to a junk yard and got one for 200 bucks, is it worth it? the car has 85,000 miles, but they said that the tranny was replaced at one time, so they have no idea how many miles are on the tranny. are there ANY differances from the V6 trannys to the V8s? the newer the better i assum as well. anyhelp?

well i desided not to go with the junkyard tranny anyways, who knows what kinda condition its in. so far the first shop told me that my vavles are sticking, and that my servo seal is bad, thats why its leaking. he told me that there is no fixing my tranny and that i need to buy a new one. then as i was leaving he told me he can fix it for 850 bucks, plus he will put in my shift kit for free. so i guess well see what this other shop tells me tomorrow.

all you have to do is bolt it right up add fluid and your good to go.

i had mine rebuilt for 700, that included a convertor, a mechanic at a gm dealer, who does it on the side did it for me i have no complaints, after 10-12k miles, it is now out of the car since i am swapping to manual, but i am undecided on selling it yet, not till i get the car going again at least.

where in illinois are you located, the guy that did mine is in morrison, i could get his number if you want

well this last shop gave me 3 options:
1. replace all the bad parts with cheap "get you by" parts, stall converter, installation, and 90 day/3000mile warrnety for : 1,080 bones

2. replace all bad partsand some others with pretty good parts, stall converter, instalation, and 12month/12,000 mile warrenty for: 1,279 bones

3. replace EVERYTHING with top notch parts, built to my specs, stall converter, instalation, backed with a life time warrenty plus free yearly tune ups for: 1,667 bones

this shop was by far the best i have been to. the guy took out my transmission and took it all apart for no charge. he showed me exactly what was wrong. he showed me the torn up clutches, the torn up band....everything. very nice place, but not cheap! i think im gonna go with the life time warrenty though.......well see.

Sounds almost to good to be true. First I've heard of anyone ever giving a lifetime warranty on a 700r4. What does his definition of lifetime warranty? Sorry if I sound skeptical, but perhaps do some more research on this guy.

I am not sure about this....but if I was going to buy a new tranny I would want it to have all the parts with it....including stall. I would call those guys up and see exactly what the deal is.

im just gonna go with the shop that i took it to, i called him back and told him that i wanted package 3 (the life time warrenty one)..the buzz on the street about this guy is good, so far i havent heard anything bad. the guy is nice as heck, he has showed me his facilities, showed me EXACTLY what was wrong on my trans, explained some stuff for me, and even sat there and had a 30 min conversation with me about cars. you ever have that feeling with a mechanic like "wow this guy is awsome, im gonna recommend this guy to everyone?"...well i get it from this guy. im not exactly sure waht the lifetime warrenty terms and conditions are yet, ill ask tomorrow. but i told him that im gonna be beating on it and takin it to the strip everynow and then, and he never siad that the life time warrenty wouldnt cover that. this guy backs his work 100%, he is so confident in his work that he even told me "this will be the best transmission you will ever own!"....i dont know, this place just seems awsome to me, i didnt get a vibe like this anywhere else.... its called Liberty Transmissions in Waukegan illinois. i guess well see in 2 days how my tranny is!
