clutch problems
clutch problems
I have a '83 camaro with a 350 and a mechanical t-5 set-up. I went to start the car and when i pushed the clutch pedal in i heard a bang and the pedal is now just swinging in the air. I havn't jacked the car up yet but i did get down and reached under for a feel and i know that the rod and spring are still connected to the fork. I know once i jack the car up i'll know for sure but i dont have the time right now. Im wondering if there is anyone out there that has a idea on what happened. im figuring something with the z-bar broke cause the pedal is still connected through the firewall and the car does start. Thanks to anyone that can help
P.S. Death 2 all mustangs that share our streets. I have slayed many a beasts myself.

my 83 T/A has the old Z-bar linkage. sounds like you broke one of your bell cranks. there are about 5 or 6 parts that make up the z-bar linkage.
my sugguestion is when you get the new Z-bar first things first. get the new arms re welded. both of my arms that attach to te tube broke within 2 1/2 of eack other. it was just due to some poor welds , and this was on a brand new part !
when you dismantle the Z-bar pull everyhting out from underneath the car, its MUCH easier.
if you cant find a Z-bar go to ames and get one from them.
603-8763345 or 603-876-4656.
thats the only place at the moment that has them. i think it was discontenued from GM within the past 2 yrs IIRC.
AMES should have the other stuff as well.also grease the mess out of the new Z-bar.
