How To Manually Shift 700R4 at 4700rpm
Heres my problem when i leave my gear slector in Drive it shifts a 5500 to 6000rpms. This is way to high for size of cam i have. Ive tried shifting manually 1 2 D, but it stills shifts at 5500 to 6000 rpms with my foot to the floor. How do i get to shift at 4700rpms with my foot on the floor.

You could buy a ratchet shifter, but I'm not too sure how good that is for the life of the tranny.
You could use an air shifter if you want but it won't make a difference.
Any more suggestions? well lets see....the governor determines what the wot shift points are, adjusting the tv cable won't help, a shift kit wont help it, so I guess no there are no other suggestions.
What is it you want to hear?
Not trying to be a smartass.

You'll need to play around with the one you have to adjust the shift points.
One question though, how come manually shifting won't let him shift earlier, I don't see why that is, I mean I know the 700 will cause an early shift if you try to manually shift later, but not the other way around.

Take out your governor and examine the inner weights and describe them. Tell me what you see, or call me (better) and I will help you out on this. 800 763288 M-S 10-6 PST. Let me know?

Thats a link to help you identify the governor you have, I would guess yours has the thinner inner weights.
I have a bucket full of governors that helps me tune my transmissions, I got some of them from junkyards and some from a trans shop that went out of bussiness.
The governor controls wide open throttle shift points so if it's set to give wot shifts at 6000 it's not going to shift until 6000 no matter what. If it was set to give 4000 rpm shift points you could still manually shift it at 6000 but not at 3000. The reason (on the 6000 rpm governor) is because the governors inner weights haven't been drawn out by centrifugal force yet, where as on the 3000 rpm governor the weights move out around 3000 rpm so it could be manually shifted any time after 3000 rpm.
To explain it another way, nothing will make the trans have a wot upshift unless the governor weights are pulled to the outer position by the centrifugal force. Hope this amkes sense.

It's not really a manual shift. What gear the gear selecter is showing is merely the highest gear the tranny will allow. You can hold it in gear past the normal shift point, somewhat anyway. If you get up around 6500 it will shift anyway--regardless of gear selecter position.

how would i go about changing my governer?
where abouts is it inside the trany?
i bought a ace preped trany trom TPI transmissions and i put it in and set the tv cable but it shifs out of first at 3500 at wot and shifts out of second at 4000
i dont like it
it is made to shift manualy so i shift every gear manualy when i race at about 5200
it also does not downshift at the right times either
could i get a governer out of a vette 700r4 and put it in
would this help my problem?
thanks in advance
