Auto starter with T56...

I will be doing a 700r4 to T56 swap in a few weeks and was wondering if the stock auto starter could be used. I have found some articles that state that the auto starter will not fit. I was just wanted to know if anyone has done this swap.

I did the swap two weeks ago and had to change my starter. I have a '91 Z28, 5.7. There is no way that nose cone was going into that bellhousing. 3rd gen starters differ by year and motor, so your starter might work. You won't know until you get into it.

I used a starter from a '93-'94 F-body. It was much smaller than my original starter. I believe that hte '95-'97 straters are a higher torque than the '93-'94. My 4th gen starter doen't turn the motor over near as fast as my original.

I have a 92 RS, LO3 engine 305 TBI. So I will probably have to use the forth gen starter. Just to make sure, the a 95-97 forth will bolt right in right.

I used one from a 4th gen. Also, the wires coming to the started had to be unclamped to reach the mini-starter

I'm guessing the starter is just going to be wait and see. I used my stock starter, 91 305 TPI T-5 it fit just fine. My starter finally died and I got a new one. Parts store only had one listed, same part # for manual and auto. I heard they were differant so I figured I'd try it and see. Fit just fine. So who knows.
