need a clutch for this, but not sure what to get, jegs has one and it's $540! Must be others out there...any help would be great

I would not recommend centerforce for the T56. I have read many complaints about the centerforce in the T56s, they do noy have a good reputation. I had a STAR clutch, which I recommend and many also recommend Mcleod clutches.

After much research I went with a lt4 pressure plate and the mcleod disk. I havent driven it yet (thanks to spohn and holley, still waiting on parts) but If you ask me in 2 weeks I should be able to tell you how it is.

 

I've got the same setup as cfabe. I have, unfortunately, a slight problem with clutch chatter. But damn, the clutch GRABS!

I got my LT4 pressure plate and LT1 flywheel from Dal (lockitup@bright.net), and I got my mcleod disc from Thunder Racing.

 

Am I gonna need a new pressure plate, I allready have a 5spd in my car, is there anything i'll need besides the cross memeber, I allready ordered that yesterday from spohn, how is he on shipping?

 

You sure are, the T56 utilizes a pull style clutch instead of a push style. You'll need a specific flywheel too--if you've got a one-piece RMS engine, the stock LT1 flywheel will work, otherwise you have to go aftermarket.

 

I was told that the one I had on the car would work? HUH? How much are those, and where to get them...

The stock 94-97 T56 utilizes a pull style clutch. Nothing will interchange from a T5.

I don't even know what kind of car or transmission you currently have.

 

I dont know if its just me, but it seems like people are getting lazy with the search button of late. All the t-56 swap info has been gone over already.

Real quick tho, if you're coming from a t-5 car to a t-56, you 'll need to get: tranny, bellhousing, clutchfork, hydraulics, crossmember, flywheel, pressure platew/ t.o. bearing, clutch disk, all the right bolts, some of which you can get a the hardware and some you can't, shifter, some electrical connectors if you want reverse lights and speedo, speedo recalibration box. I may have missed a few things.

 

Okay, I lied.

You can reuse the T5 reverse lamp connector.

 

It took a month to get mine including the 8 days shipping (FedEx ground snail) so don't plan on having it for at least 3 weeks.

 

I have the LT4 Pressure plate with the Mcleod clutch. 99hawk is right, there is a little clutch chatter but you'll get use to it and get it smooth. Thats probably one of the cheapest and best option. You can also get a STAR clutch from thunder racing with I've heard, is very good. They have many stages to suit your needs. Good luck with T56.

 

definatly Mcleod, and if you have the $$ go with the lt4 press plate, this setup grabs like a son of a bitch!!

Since you've got a 91Z, you've already got a once piece RMS engine. That means you can use a STOCK LT1 flywheel. Grab the LT4 pressure plate and McLeod disc if you want a good clutch for not a ton of $$$.

You'll also need a dakota digital box (SGI-5) from www.dakotadigital.com to make your speedometer work with the new transmission.
