Stock tranny or swap??
Stock tranny or swap??
Buddy of mine has an 89 IrocZ. He bought the car according to a diagnostics test done and the mechanics word on it, said the engine was a 350, swapped apparently. The question I'd like to know and I've heard a few stories about but wasn't sure. Is if the stock 305 tranny weather its a standard or auto will stand up to the torque demands of that to a 350 tpi?? I've heard that it is a temporary fix to a problem where the tranny will wear out due to the power of the engine in a matter of time? Would it be best to go with an aftermarket or to when taking the swapped engine if it is common sense to take the tranny as well. Any experiences or knowledged on the matter would be greatly appreciated
the auto from a 305 will hold up to a 350. in fact they are the same trannies (700r4). the only one that would be different are the t-5 and the v6 auto and stick. the t-5 will hold up to the 350 if they are not too terribly hard on it. the v6 trannies won't even fit unless they are from a 4.3 liter setup and they will survive too. hope this helps.
