what do i have to do to put a nonlockup TC in my 700r4?
thinking bout switching it over.. i went carbed with my new motor and it can sometimes be a pain in the *** to switch the toggle switch on and off.. been thinking of switching to a higher stall anyways so i could do it all in one swoop thanks for your help!!
I have the same switch on my carb motor....
Y not just leave the switch in the off position?
I only turn mine on when I am on the freeway, and so long as the engine speed doesent go below 45 it still has plenty of pick up.

Or run a vacuum switch instead of a toggle.
On mine, when the switch is in the on position the TC will only lock in 4th gear. When the switch is off, it never locks. It's usually in the on position, because I drive it in 3rd around town(won't lock in 1st, 2nd or 3rd).

What do you guys mean by the transmission locks up. Just some basic stuff I am clueless. I went from TPI to Carb with my 700R4 and didn't do anything to the tranny except hook up the tranny kickdown. What else do i have to do?
"lockup" means the 2 halfs(oh my ***, I just realized I dont know how to spell halfs, but I mean 2 parts) physically lock togethers.
This eliminates the slipage and lowers RPM by a few hundred in 4th gear.
I dont think it is absouloutley necessary, the guy who built my trans told me it wont hurt anything to lock up.
there is a tech. article on how to "fool" the computer to force the converter to lock up using a toggle switch, it takes about 20 minits and cost about 3 dollars.

lets say i left the switch in place and does that mean i only have to turn it on when i am in 4th gear?? thats what i dont get i know it works becuase the motor bogs like its supposed to.. but it just gets to be a pain when i am driving short distances and get into 4th gear do to my gears i have to shift into 4th gear.. or can i just use the switch and lock it up when i am on the high way doing 70 thats what i dont get when i do have to lock it up and when i dont..
you only have to lock it up when you want, I have heard that not locking it up on the highway can generate exces heat in the tranny, but I dont know for sure.
I only lock mine when im on the highway.
Leave the lock up on there, I cant think of any reason you would want to get less MPG on the freeway

Oh, and to the guy couldn't remember. It's halves . I forget easy crap like that too sometimes.
Mark, I did switch to a carb but left my computer in the vehicle to avoid fuel pump and VATS problems. Is there a way to disable my computer from having any relation with my tranny, without taking out the computer? Are ther any plugs or sensors going to my tranny that I can disconnect?
