will my gears stop humming???

will my gears stop humming???

I just put new gears and posi in and it humms at certain rpm's...I have been told that it will do this during break in time. Is this suppose to happen or not?

are they richmonds? if so they tend to hum, richmonds are cut a little differant for increased strength and that causes them to make more noise.

Gear noise very, very rarely gets quieter with time. The sound will stay the same. If you do have a problem with the gear set-up, the noise will get worse.

Just so that you are sure...
Purchase some friction modifier. Bring it with you
when you have the gear lube changed (after break in).
A fair number of "trained" lube shop techs are "taught"
that you don't need it with "whatever the hell it is gear lube"
that they use. Make sure they add the friction modifier.

Richmonds are always noisy, even when set correctly.
