Help me get rid of my governor
Alright fellas I have an 88 Iroc 305 TPI with the 5 speed and i was wondering how i would get rid of the governor without having to get a new chip. (I'm kinda broke right now) It tops out at 115mph @3000 rpms. I dunno if it makes a difference but i have ttops also, thanks for the time.
dont know about TPI, but are you sure its the govenor?
this is just a thought, you can be the judge....
but a 305 doesent really make a whole lot of horsepower, perhpaps it doesent have the HP to pull more than 115?
there is a TON of wind resistance at that speed, try sticking your hand out the window...then imagine a 3500pound car with a 215HP motor trying to move it that fast and faster...and once again, pleez refrain from driving that fast in areas with traffic, Ive seen some REALLY nasty stuff from a high speed pursuit that ended in a death with brains and blood...i saw it..it was really disgusting, another 15 seconds and the dead lady would have been me.
I dont mean to be preaching or anything, but a car is a responsibility to you and other drivers.
If I pointed a gun to your head, you would say im crazy and be afraid, but remember that a car can be just as deadly at 115mph.

My '86 Iroc 305 tpi 700R4 is governed at 144mph. However, that engine is not capable of that speed. I can tell you that it will do well over 120 mph.
*note* that was out in the boonies, with a 5 mile straight stretch with no cars, houses, animals withing a few miles, so I only put myself at risk

Your car is at least 14 years old. I'm sure the suspension is worn out. Please do not attempt to do 115 MPH. I will be so pissed if you kill me.

Seriously tho, I've only heard of limiters at around 123 mph or there abouts.
I've had my 20 year old car upto around 110 on 475 at 7 am on a sunday. there was a lot of throttle left, but I started to think about the speeding ticket, free ride to the jail, towing bill, court costs, lawyer bills, time off from work, but most especially, my ole' lady bitchin' me out
If you are gonna banzai run, do it where it's safe.
Ok, off my soap box.
I sure wish there was a track around here that I could take my Z on and just do some high speed laps.

My governor was set at about 120 but then my rear blew out and i changed it 3.08 to a 3.42. Before and after it still came on at 3000 rpm's, it just seems like it shuts off the gas for a split second, and then you start to go again and it does the same thing everytime.
