busted my 7.5, heard about 9" having alot of vibration problems in f'body's help me.

I just shattered my 7.5 rearend...

I'm broke going to school this semester... won't be able to afford a great rear end till next semester...

I've heard of people welding up the rear end in 7.5's and putting good gears in them to make them hold up. How well will this hold up untill it breaks an axle,
I'm just running drag radials right now...

While I get it fixed temporarly, I'm checking on aftermarket rearends. I got a guy going to give me a buddy deal on a new aftermarket 9" center section with axels, studs, and housing, used junk yard center section for about $900.
Now I know this is a decent buy...

I've heard of 9" having alot of vibration in f'bodys b/c of the 9" having an offset drive shaft...
Can any body verify this?

thanks,
Shad Haynes

I've heard of that too but I've never had a problem with vibes. I'd just make sure the pinion angle is correct especially with aftermarket torque arm. I'm not sure what my pinion angle is at because I still have the stock torque arm. I never bothered to check cuz I didn't have any probs with it. BTW I'm using a Moser 9" housing and a 3.5" aluminum driveshaft with spicer U joints.

appreciate the reply,

fact or fiction:

anybody else heard or had problems with the 9" vibrating

Stock or Factory 9" ford rears ARE harder to turn then Stock or factory GM 12 bolts, the reason why is because the pinion is much farther down the ring gear in the 9"...

I don't know of even one aftermarket 9" rear that hasn't had this problem corrected so it shouldn't be too much of a concern!

Here is an article:

12 VS 9

Vibration can be a problem, but it is soley related to driveline angle both at the trans end & the rear end. This can be corrected with an adjustable torque arm, such as Spohn's. The trans can be shimmed up or or down to correct as well.

Mini-spool !!!!! Get an open diff., pop in a mini-spool, add your gear, POOF!!!!, problem solved. I never ran one in a 7.5 though. I ran a mini-spool in both my 9 inches and never had a problem, even with slicks on the street. Just don't whip around corners. It will give you back your ride to thrash on until you can afford King Daddy !!!!
