drop the 7oor4 for a turbo 400 ?

Should I get rid of my 700R4 tranny for a Turbo 400. Which is stronger? What do you think? Thanks, Justin.

TH400 is stronger, however it has no overdrive. If you are running higher gears 3.42 & up you will be over 3000 rpm @ 65mph. It also needs some modification to fit, tunnel clearance, rework crossmember & longer driveshaft.

Tunnel clearance is just fine... actually the TH400 has more than my 700R4 did...

You will need to get a crossmember and a DS tho....

I also got the GV OD unit.. pretty slick setup....

and you need to figure out what to do with the torque arm, 400 dollars and a aftermarket part makes it easy to do. a th350 is a pretty easy swap with the b&m adapter kit.

You got a Gear Vendor unit to fit?

I'm not doubting you, just never heard of it in a unibody. Got pics?

How much horsepower are we talking about here? The 700R4 when setup correctly can handle about 500-550 HP ok with the right torque converter (more HP with sleeved input drum). I have plenty of them out there doing fine, if I can be of help give me a call?

Save the horsepower and weight, buy the heavy duty drum and sprag for a TH-350. Find a good tranny builder and you'll have the strength of a 400 but less rotating mass which will equate into better performance. 400's take some ponies to turn. I can get bullet proof race ready TH350's here in town by local builder for $550.00. I haven't heard or seen a racer with tranny problems yet from this guy. Right now I still have the 700r4 with the Transgo reprogrammer kit and the rest of the garbage, and my tranny shifted better before the kit was installed. This is the third 700r4 with this kit in it that you have to let off the gas (when I'm at the track I have to pump the **** out of it) to get it to go into 3rd gear. These are three different trannies, owned by three different people, kits installed by three different shops and the same damn problem. Don't say my TV cable cause it's been to the GM dealer, and 2 tranny shops and they say it's adjusted correctly. This tranny has cost me alot of money I've blown at the track with inconsistent shifts and I will NEVER have another one. For racing purposes anyway.

I put a TH400/Gear Vendors unit in my Vette. It is just wonderful. I got sick of wrecking 700r4's. I only have 1000 miles on my setup now but it seems to be fine. I have done some autocrossing and a bit of high speed lapping at the road coarse. It is a very cool setup for autocrossing. You can see some pics of my install on my web site. I would definately recommend doing this to anybody. I don't think it would even be as difficult to do in a F-body. But I know very little about them, sorry. The guys are Gear Vendors were very helpful over the phone whenever I had a question. The president even gave me his personal cell phone # and told me to call him whenever! Can't beat that.

i'd LOVE to go with a TH400 and a gear vendors unit, but to shell out 2K for the GV unit, way out of my price range
