700r4 Problems
700r4 Problems
Well, I think that my trans is toast... It won't shift from 1'st to 2'nd till at least 4500 rpm, then once in second, it doesn't go back into first. It slips in the shift from 2'nd to 3rd, and od works as normal. The tv cable is not the problem. I have adjusted it to no avail. I cleaned the governor, and that didn't help. I changed the fluid and filter to find burnt fluid and metal in the bottom of the pan.
Any ideas???

If there is metal in the pan then there is metal in the valve body.
One or more of the valves is hanging up.
Pull down the valve body and remove each valve one at a time and clean with brake cleaner. Do not use rags or paper towels to wipe the parts as the lint can cause the valves to stick. Just use brake cleaner and air. You can buy a pair (2 sets) of valve body gaskets and a pan gasket from GM at reasonable cost. A transgo shift kit, even the SK700 jr and a corvette servo and boost valve will tighten up those shifts.
If you are not installing a shift kit, download the instructions off the net for one, so you can see where the ***** go back in.
I think TCI and B&M has online instructions for their kits.
You can use a little Vasoline to hold the ***** up in the trans while u reinstall the valve body and plate with new gaskets.
