9 bolt expert needed!
9 bolt expert needed!
I just got 373 gears for my 9 bolt to replace my 327 and i have never messed with rearend gears before. I need detailed instruction on how to put in the gears and install a bearing rebuild kit that i have also. Im not mechanicaly retarded so i can do it i just dont want to go into it blind. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
buy a manual first
then install the pinion with out the crush sleeve (if 9 bolts have one) set the pinion depth (it's etched on the pinion)
reinstall pinion with crush sleeve and set bearing preload
install carrier and set back lash then check the contact pattern.i'm betting you don't have any of the tools to do this with since it's pretty specialized. you'll need a in/lbs dial type torque wrench, depth mike, something to use as a datum surface to measure the pinion depth, mag base and indicator, "special tool" to hold the pinion yoke

no idea what flat rate is on it, but i'd guess 3-4 hours. guess about all you can do is start making phone calls, no idea who or where you could take it ,maybe gm dealer but i doubt they'd do as good a job as someone who specializes in it.
