Problem with Hurst Shifter

Hi,
I just bought a hurst shifter promatic 2 for the th-350 trans. I put it in and I seem to be having problem with the transmission cable. I am trying to use the stock tranny cable instead of having to install the one that comes with the shifter. What is happening is that I am not able to shift into all the gears because the cable is not be pulled enough forward to lock into that particular gear. I was just wondering if anyone had any expierence with this or if someone else had encoutered this problem.
Thanks
Barrett

Probably be best to use the supplied cable.
