Manual Torque Converter Switch

I have already done a search and I found many results, but my question still hasn't been answered. Is there a way to wire in a toggle switch to the converter so that in one position the car runs normal like from the factory, but in the other postion the converter is unlocked all the time? I read the tech article but it is the opposite of what I want to do, it locks up the converter all the time. If this is possible, what wire/wires do I need to splice the switch into. thanx

You will need an SPDT relay and a switch.. Different manufacturers of these relays make them differently. Look for one with a #87A terminal (in the center of the relay). I prefer Bosch. Some have two #87 terminals. This will not work. Wire it in the following manner:

Isolate the ECM to torque converter wire at the ECM. On a 1987 305/350 TPI, it is tan/black. Cut it at the ECM. One loose end connects to #30 on the relay. The remaining loose end connects to #87A.

Connect #86 to an ignition source.

Connect #85 to a toggle switch at either terminal.

Connect the remaining switch terminal to ground. Finished!!

Now with the switch ON, the relay is energized, opening the circuit on the factory tan/black wire. Although the ECM will command lockup, the converter cannot because the circuit is open.

Willie thanks for all your help. Do you happen to have the part number for the Bosch relay? I can't wait to hook this thing up. Thanks again

I used to buy the relay & socket (connector) for $9 each from Crutchfield. And I don't even use the socket... Then I found:

Parts Express
937.743.3000
http://www.partsexpress.com
(looks like part sex to me!!)

Bosch 12V, 30A relay
#330-070
$1.99 each!!

And if you want the socket:

Relay Socket
#330-075
$1.29 each
