my turbo 350 wont shift out of 1st gear at all. i dropped the pan and there was a spring in it, it was kinda short, thin gauge metal. the fluid wasnt burnt and its not slippin cause 1st gear is still strong as hell, and i have reverse. it has a shift kit and a 2200 stall.

Does it have a genuine Shift Kit (TransGo) or a bang plate? Is it possible that the 2nd Roller Race is fragged?

i think its a bang plate, but not sure, they guy i bought the trans from said it shifted to hard so he had it adjusted down, does that more than likely mean its a genuine or a bang plate

You said you found a spring in your pan?
That probably came from the govenor on your transmission.
That is what controls the shift points. The weaker the springs the
harder the shift. So what you my try doing is jack the back of the
car up (So you wont spew all of your tranny fluid out). And take off the gonvenor cover. It is round, you cant miss it. You will probably will have to take off your cross member and lower your tranny to get to it. (More than likely.) Pull the cover off with a flat head screw driver and pull out the govenor. It kinda looks like a mini cam shaft with two little rockers on it. Look under the rockers and see if there are two springs in there if not, Put that spring you found in there, or buy some weakend springs or something.

Also make sure that the tranny vacuum hose is still on the tranny and the intake.
