Can a 1985 700R4 handle 400ft/lbs at the flywheel.

Hey

I am planning on getting a 383 stroker built this winter and the engine is built to put out 400ft/lbs at the flywheel. I am wondering if the stock bottom end is going to be able to handle that power or am I gonna blow it to nothing.

Thanks alot.

A stock one? nope.

One rebuilt and upgraded to 87+ specs? Sure.

I have heard that the 1985 700R4s wernt as strong as the 1987 and up 700R4s, I forget what its called of the top of my head but somthing in the 1985 700R4 twists.
How long do u think the transmission would last with the 383. Ill be braking the motor in so I dont think I will be bagin on it.

I think it is the input shaft, Ibeleive the earlier trans. have 27 splines and the later ones have 30 splines.

I thought that they went to the 30 spline in 85, and that it was the 84 and previous that had the 27.

I think that 84 1/2 was the change not positive though.
