I'm just finishing up my swap in my Trans am. I have a 700R4 that came with the T/A that has the VSS sending unit in the tailshaft, and a TH350 that came with my old Camaro that has a 700R4 tailshaft. (which I am taking the engine/tranny out of to put in my T/A).

My problem is that I can't get the VSS sender out of the 700 to put in my 350. I pulled the one on my TH350 already (which is metal) and it came right out. The one in the 700 is plastic and I've already broke a tab off of it trying to get it out with channel-locks. Is there something I'm missing. I've almost pulled off this entire swap without a problem (knock on wood) and can't let this little piece of plastic defeat me.

All that holds the VSS in is the little bolt and the clamp that looks like a distributor hold down. After the years this thing can seat itself in there pretty good. It has an o-ring that is what is probably holding you up. You could probably try to spray some penetrating oil around it. Hopefully that will loosen it up. Good luck with it.

I have a couple extra retaining clips that holds the driven gear in place on the output shaft incase you break yours and need another.

Alright, I just wanted to make sure there was nothing I was missing before I broke it. The cable driven one came right out of the 350 with just a little twist and pull, I will try some penetrating oil.

Thanks for the offer Tom, but between the trannys I have two so I should be fine. BTW, my stepdad's lawn service has a truck with a 454 TBI, what is the differance between that one and the ones that comes on small blocks? It's cool to see someone do something differant.

Pretty much the only two differences is the 454 tbi has 2" bores instead of 1-11/16' like the smallblock TBI's, and the injectors are bigger too.
