t5 install question

Mine blew. Got another one, installing it now.

Now the question:

My old t5 had a black cable coming off of it? Is that a TV cable?

My new t5 doesnt have one, and where the cable goes into the transmission there seems to be a cap blocking it. Do I need this cable? I downloaded the t5 service manual and I don't think it says much about it...I am very new to transmissions and would appreciate some help.

Thanks!

Where is this cable?

If it goes into the rear of the trans just in front of the driveshaft, it's the speedometer cable. Take the piece out of your old trans and put it into the other one.

your old one was world class same in that pic with long plastic tube(breather) your new one does not have it beacause it is an older tranny style (non world class)
your old one better than the new one

thanks for info

Thanks for the info...a breather tube eh...

I understand that a WC T5 is better in most cases...but not when it grinds going into 3rd and 4th...pops out of 4th...has no reverse and makes banging noises while in neutral.

Perhaps it can be rebuilt. But for now, this is what I have, and it only has 60k miles on it (old one had 150k).

Does the breather tube just flush air out of the tranny or does it need to connect to anything?

you do not need to connect it to any thing
they made the breathers for vent the tranny so it will not bulid up pressure inside the tranny

yours better than mine

when I bought mine in same day my starter went bad
and only after 3 days when i was doing donuts my muffler came off
after one week my tranny said bye bye
after I fixed my tranny i liked to discover my camaro for off roading
well it was fun 'till I broke my oil pan and bent my two faded fenders and the ground effects and I had to push it to the main street.
but know it is way better and I'm doing a good project and it will be ready after 2-3 months
by the way my camaro is 1984 5.0 HO
5 speed tranny with 3.73 possi rear end
