700R4 Doesn't shift/downshift right
My car doesn't shift right while i'm driving. It's a 700R4 in my 85 iroc-z and it's done it ever since i've had the car. One thing is if i'm accelerating around 1/2 throttle or less, my car will very quickly shift into O/D. It'll shift into O/D at 30 in town if i let it and then it won't downshift at all until i give it about 3/4 throttle and it'll downshift into 2nd. It does this at any speed. Another thing is that when it's in 3rd gear and i'm going almost a steady speed, the rpm's will slowly go down 200-250 almost like it's shifting into O/D. I know it does this in 3rd b/c it does it if i have it in drive as well as O/D. (sometimes it does this when i'm accelerating) I recently upgraded to a 730 SD ECM and when i first did the swap, it worked PERFECTLY in every aspect for about 3 or 4 days and now it's doing pretty much what it did with the original computer in. The weird thing was that if i swapped in the old computer it would shift like **** and i could plug the new computer back in and it would drive like a champ....?? I don't know what the hell is going on but i'd really like to get this fixed b/c i REALLY liked the way it worked when it was working right. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The ECM does nothing for shifts in an early transmission.
It sounds like the tc is locking in it's normal operation range 35MPH+ at a steady speed droping the RPM's like it's supposed to. I suggest doing what you plan on. Adjust the TV cable, change the fluid and then see what happens. These 700r4's are very picky with thier TV cables and a misadjusted cable "loose" can cause all kinds of shift qulity issues.

yeah, i know the ecm doesn't control the shifts in the tranny, just the tc lockup. that's what makes it so weird. i couldn't figure out what was making it work right for those first couple days. it's weird. but, right now my car's COMPLETELY stripped down b/c i'm painting it. but i'll be finished this weekend hopefully so i'll adjust the tv cable and try it out.
