as we all know by now, i pulled apart my T5 a while ago,

i looked at the synchro sleeves and i see nothing wrong

well, when I pulled apart my T-5, I knew my 1-2 synchro was definitely bad. sure enough, when I got the synchs out, if you look at the synchro and th"teeth" on it, the 1-2 was rounded off on every tooth pretty badly, almost flat spotted. the synchros I replaced them with had nice points on them, and I didnt have any grinding when I got it back in the car. so I think that is what goes bad. I may be wrong though.

when you look at the synchro (the brass ring) you should have sharp teeth, and on the inside bore you should have little grooves on them where they ride on the gear. if these grooves are worn you will have bad shift quality.

The groove (one long groove) on the inside of the syncro ring must be on the sharp side (the top of the groove), use a magnifying glass if need be to see this. Put the new syncro ring on the gear you are having problems with and check the clearance between the syncro & gear with a feeler gauge, it should be .050 or more, if not try another syncro ring. The engagement teeth on the gear should be sharp to slightly round., same thing for the sliders. Use the recommend fluid called for for the unit, but only the highest quality. Make sure there are magnets in the trans, wherever an extra one can be added, do so. If the unit has been run low on fluid, then there is a chance of a gear or gears being burned, if this happens........well it can be expensive.

yeah, i'm just trying to decide whether its cost effective to rebuild it or not

i dont really need the trans, but a rebuild kit is about $150 and new synchros are about $200, so thats kinda alot

i would like to have the trans as a spare though incase i blow my current T5 before i put the 350 and hopefully a T56 in
