rear end modifacation

ok, so lets say i have this rear end.

now to my knowledge, i am going to have to make the axle tubes wider to fit into my camaro.

now how do i go about getting the old tubes out of the differential housing to be able to put the new ones in?

Depends on what diff you're talking about and how the old tubes were installed. Most tubes have spot welds holding them in. Drill, grind, air arc, out the spot welds then press the old tube out of the housing. If the tube is welded all the way around the housing then all that weld also needs to be removed.

WHY?

For all the modification you're going to have to do why did you buy that for your car? Save the cash and build up a ten bolt, or buy a 12 bolt from moser. The Torque arm won't mount up, all the brackets will have to be cut off and re attached. And to topit all off, you want to WIDEN the rear??

If you just have to have the 44, get new rear wheels w/ a diff offset. That'll make up for your width, to a point.

oh, and it's a pain in the *** to do what you're talking about.

If you bought it because it's cheap.. that makes no good sense.
Just because you COULD have sex w/ a nasty chick doesn't mean you SHOULD, know what i mean?

well there is another reason i am doing this.

i am going to an engineering school, and quite possibly will be working for one of the big three when i get out of college.

not only am i building this car for fun, but i also want to be able to take it to my interview and have them look at it to see what i have done. and when they start choosing who they hire, i can be that much higher on the list.

i also don't have the cash to buy a 12 bolt from moser. but i do have money to buy stock steel and cut it and weld it.

i've moved a lot of center sections in trucks for mud racing ,about the same work as to remove the tube. i used arc air to blow out the welds then die grinder to finish it off. jack the center to make it rotate, or in your case pull the tubes out.

sorry if i sounded harsh or something, most of the time when i get a reply to my questions, most of the time it is "why would you want to do this, when you can just buy it" or something like that.

so the axle tubes pretty much slip out easily once the welds are gone?
