gm upshift #8673948

Will this not work in an 86 valve body. I pulled the pan at a trans shop and the tech said the valve body was not the 87 and up, turns out its out of an 86. Will it work?

I can not guaruntee this, but I read that the new valve body didnt really start until 88. I think that they just added an auxilary valve body in 87. I have an 85, and was wondering will this work in my tranny? I have the tranny out so I have considered putting that in while I am at it. If it will work could someone tell me where in the vavle body it goes and how to change it?

Thanks

Ben

Have you ever tried to seee if your car already did this? I was just reading some old posts and think that I read that the 82 to either 86 or 87 were able to upshift into 4th at full throttle in stock form. I am not sure if it is supposed to be able to in the 87 or not.

Ya, I've tried on this car and my old 86 lb9 car. Niether one would upshift or hold over drive with more than 2/3 throttle.

Well, if anyone else was wondering this part # is only good for the 87-up auxilary valve body

1986 and 1987 700's have the same valvebody, despite the fact that the '87 has the auxilary VB and the '86 does not. The spacer plate, however, is unique.

As far as the sleeve, is this the 3-4 upshift sleeve? Because I have a different part number than what was posted. I have heard of people putting this sleeve in early style valvebody and it working, however, I have had personal experiance installing this sleeve in an '86 VB and 4th gear was gone. I put the old valve back in and 4th gear came back. I won't install one again on an early style.

This was the b-body fix kit and I'm guessing it must be for the 88-up valve body if that is when they changed it.
