Shifter button/cable problem?
Lately my shifter has been acting up.. I think if I fix this one thing, it'll fix all my problems with it..
what would cause the shifter button to not pop out after it's pushed in? it keeps getting stuck in almost every time I press it in, causing me to not be able to pull the key out when I'm parking, and causing me to shift into reverse accidentally while going forward (when I try to put it in neutral but it goes too far) I can still pull it out, but that's not how it's supposed to be, so I want it fixed, of course. hehe... thanks for any help.

Maybe the clip that holds the button to the shaft is binding inside the tube.
Or the spring under the button can't lift it. Have you taken the shift plate loose and checked the
button's shaft to see if it moves smoothly up and down?

The button at the **** actually has a cable that goes to the ignition switch in the column in order to control the fact that it shouldn't go out of park unless your ignition is on. The switch in the column is located under the dash on the top of the column where the wires connect. Mine had that problem and I sprayed some WD40 and it stopped sticking. Hope this works!
