when changing rear-end lube....

i checked the archives and don't really feel confident with my finding so...

when changing rear end lube, do you :

1) replace the gasket OR
2) use RTF sealant OR
3) use BOTH

thanks.

also, if anyone can recommend the weight oil i should use for my 91 v6 auto??

i use high tack on the rear to hold the new gasket in place and hammer out the dimples in the cover and maybe coat it with a thin layer of ultracopper. i use m1 or amsoil gear oil and gm posi additive
